Andy Treinen, the temp

Finally tracked down Andy Treinen, the former Channel 19 weekend anchor who popped up on Channel 19 Saturday night anchoring the news. Treinen says he’s just doing fill-in work for a few days this month while looking for a full-time anchor gig. He left Milwaukee’s NBC station when his three-year contract was up earlier this year, and decided to move back to the house he still owns in Cheviot. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement with WXIX-TV, which needs a weekend anchor to replace Gene Cox (now at the Indianapolis Fox station) while Regina Russo is on maternity leave. Treinen says he’s looking for an anchor job somewhere in the Midwest. He's not really interested in returning to Ch. 19 as weekend anchor/reporter, the job he left 3 years ago.

Hurray for Capt. Spaulding!
For all you other Groucho Marx fans out there, set the DVR for Turner Classic Movies Wednesday. TCM will devote the day -- from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday -- to Groucho and the Marx Brothers movies. If you’re not a fan, the classics to catch among the dozen movies are "A Night at the Opera," with Groucho managing an opera (6:15); "Animal Crackers," with Groucho the famous African explorer helping find a stolen painting (8 p.m.), "Horse Feathers," with Groucho as a college president and a hilarious football game (11:15 p.m.) and "Duck Soup," with Groucho running a small nation into the ground (12:30 a.m.). Hail, Hail, Freedonia!

TV reminder
Norwood native Amanda Tepe appears as Colleen the evil nanny on “General Hospital” today through Thursday (3 p.m., Chs 9, 22). She’s a a 1996 St. Ursula Academy graduate.

Hey Kiese,

What's the word so far on McConnell's syndication? Has a station list been publicized yet? I have listened and the show sounded basically the same as last week.

i wouldn't mind seeing trienen as a sports anchor i bet he would be great at it

I believe Andy was a sports reporter for WXIX before he switched over to news. I was thinking the same thing!

I also think WLWT and WCPO have a shortage of male anchors. I understand that WLWT likes the two-female approach, I think Sandra Ali might want a break... she anchor at 5, 5:30, 6, and 11.

David Rose works a split-shift on WCPO - he anchors the morning show and the 5:30 PM show. Seems like they don't have much of a contingency plan...

I also wonder if WKRC will put someone else on the noon show when Cammy Dierking and Dave Burchell start the 10 PM news on WSTR.

Does anyone remeber when michelle was being mentioned as a possible top anchor spot that sandra ali filled. Michelle was always good on news5 today, she is under rated talent and 5 is not using her properly

what ever happened to the promos that 5 had after the first commerical break. They went this is news5 at 5 with sandra ali, sheree p, michelle hopkins taking action and jim obrien and the power of 5 radar network. They should go back to those, for every newscast not just live at 11 with sandra and sheree.

hawgood would be a great anchor but ill bet hes a bit tired he was anchoring the sat and sun am and pm news the last couple of weeks and fox19 would be idiots to let treinen go if he was either sports anchor or weekend reporter or combo of both. hey kiese maybe if we can get enough people to type it here or call wxix do you think it would like make a difference to let wxix and treinen know what we the people think or do you think either party would even care

That promo with Michelle Taking Action won't run anymore -- since she's no longer "taking action." You don't just get dumped from a promiment anchor to a regular reporter for no reason. Something is seriously up there. Kiese -- anyone at 5 ever answer questions about why they "made the switch" in taking her off the anchor desk completely? I've heard rumors.

well the problem at 5 is that they give they viewer everything they DONT want like over done, over worked, and cheesy gimmicks, high talent turnover, misuse of present on air talent, news that no one gives a damn about, or news that doesn't affect people in the tristate area, and so much "sensationalism" that the news has no credibility. they should be so lucky to have at least a few people who seem to care about the news they report, namely john london and emily longnecker. they provide an interest and sincerity to what they do.

Paging Jerry and Norma

when jerry and norma were number 1 who was the chief meterologist at 5.

Does anybody think jerry springer would return to the newsdesk at 5. I know it would bring big ratings for them.

One of the big reasons Andy left, was the way he and his wife were treated by the previous News Director. 19 barely made an effort to try and keep him, so he left.

New news director and, let's face it, 19 needs some reporter help.
Between bobblehead Chris Shaw and kabuke reporterettes, 19 could use both Andy and Wendy.

How about 19-19-19-19-19-19-19?

19 could have used Juliette Vara too! Any sign of her on San Diego tv? The webpages haven't had her name listed and the news director, who hired her, was just canned.

Wasn't Pat Barry the head "forecaster" back in the day, when AMS seals didn't mean anything?

Do you honestly think Jerry would come back to channel 5?!!! Of course, sensationalism is his middle name.

at 8/04/2006 8:08 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

with all due respect to the traffic guy, wouldn't bringing jerry back just be another gimmick that 5 would be throwing in the mix? too many gimmicks at 5 and i think viewers are frustrated with that. but to be fair, jerry would definitely bring in ratings, and i would watch more because when he was here anchoring, you could really tell that he cared about the news and the viewers. i'd love to hear one of his commentaries too! and what a lucky duck, to work with norma rashid and sandra ali! oh well, to dream....

Cute post, "Traffic Guy." Easy to post that link to Pete's breakfast blog and pretend you're him, huh? Moron. But don't worry, dude! They already have a posting on the WWW with your REAL name written ALL over it. Just click my screen name to find it. And get a life.

besides petes blogger name is the traffic guy so only one user per screen name

Whether 19 needs Treinen or not..I doubt he wants to go back to being a reporter. He's been anchoring too long, and I'm sure someone will give him that opportunity.

at 8/05/2006 12:24 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well my question is that does mr doucebag think that someone pretended to be pete. Do you think it could be someone from a local station.

at 8/07/2006 3:56 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

No it wasn't someone from a local station it was someone that has nothing better to do.

Why has 9News's David Rose been missing so much lately? Is he on his way out?
