Sweeps News Ratings Update

With one week to go, news ratings are up for nearly all newscasts, because of the winter storms and Liz Carroll muder trial this month. And it was more bad weather than the murder trail, says Bill Fee, Ch 9 general manager.

All four morning newcasts are up nearly by a ratings point, with Ch. 19 up 1.4 points from November to jump ahead of Ch 5 into third. Just three-tenths of a point separates second, third and fourth place in the mornings.

Ch 9 still leads 5-6:30 p.m., up 2.2 points from November. But Ch 12 has closed the gap, up 3 points from November, and has reclaimed second place at 5 p.m. from Ch. 5, which won that time period in November. Fee notes that last night, with the Carroll verdict breaking, 51.6% of the Nielsen homes watched the 6 p.m. news -- compared to the Feb average of 57.9%, and below the 65.4% peak for the Feb. 12-14 ice/snow storm last week.

Ch 19 is having a big month at 10 p.m., up 3.6 points thanks to "American Idol" plus the bad weather and trial.

Ch 12 continues to win bigger and bigger at 11 p.m., with Ch 9 up a bit and Ch 5 flat from November.

Here are the numbers to date:
6-7 AM
Ch 12, 6.0/20%
Ch 9, 4.8/16%
Ch 19, 4.6/15%
Ch 5, 4.5/15%

5-6:30 PM
Ch 9, 10.9/20.3%
Ch 12, 9.6/17.6%
Ch 5, 5.5/13.6%

10 PM
Ch 19, 9.3/15%
Ch 64, 2.4/4%

11 PM
Ch 12, 14.3/26%
Ch 9, 8.6/16%
Ch 5, 5.6/10%

Kiese -

Maybe you should show the November numbers. That way we can make a comparison.

I'd put my money on 5's promotions labeling them "News 5 @ _ , The Tri-State's Fastest Growing Newscast."

since you did it in july, how about the sports ratings on friday nights AND sunday nights?

Dave Wagner gets sidelined.
Jim O'Brien is fired.
And Tom Sussi splits for Orlando.
TV 5 - you did it again.
When will you learn that this market doesn't like change!
You want ratings - stick with something!

What is going to happen with the Enquirer's decision to publish the Liz Carroll juror's names? It is creating a lot of talk on radion and TV.

Are we sure that Paul Horton is the "chief" meteorologist at 19, or just filling in again.

On 2/15/07 Raycom posted a classified ad on the WXIX website for a Chief Meteorologist.

That's a new posting, since the previous ad was taken down with the Horton announcement a couple of weeks earlier.

Sounds like something brewing there.

I'm surprise that 9 went up in the morning with David Rose's silliness. I finally turned them off for 12. I liked Larry's weather but Rose is just goofy.

Yeah, David Rose reminds me of Jonathan Hawgood---both horrible!!!

hey david rose is alot better than the ultra fake morning team of news5 today with todd and lisa.
I just cant stand how fake they are. Todd lose the brillo pad haircut.

i hardly think they are fake. if you've met any of them in person and talked to them (as i have...), that is their true persona. nothing fake there! they're just being themselves, enjoying, reporting, and trying to keep us informed with a little personality. at least they're not a bunch of sitting stiff talking heads.

It's been said on this site before: "fake" doesn't donate a kidney. you won't meet two nicer or more sincere people than todd and lisa. this comment just reeks of channel 9 insider lashing out.

Easy, people. Easy. If you listen almost sounds like someone has an axe to grind.
That's sharp!

Is anyone else excited about the debut of the new weekend morning meteorologist at Ch.5, Randi Ricco? I'm kind of excited...hoping it will bring more interest to the weather dept over there, rather than derek, john, and eric....

Brennen (aka "anon 2:27) if you want to drum up interest in your weather department, you don't do it on weekend mornings. I doubt anyone will even notice the change. Is anyone even interested in the other new hires? Ho-hum, and the revolving weather door continues at ActionNews5.

No that comment was from me, someone who isn't real pleased with Ch.5.

I was just saying, I was kind of hoping that Randi Ricco would bring something exciting (vibe) to the station because I feel that Derek, Eric & John are BORING.....I don't like their weathercasts.

First of all.. learn to spell her name properly. It's Randi RICO.

Secondly it's obvious that your idea of non-boring is someone who is female and halfway attractive.

Take a cold shower.
