Brian Patrick Returning to Ch 9

Brian Patrick, whose contract was not renewed last year, returns to Ch 9 on Monday for three months to replace David Rose as morning co-anchor with Kathrine Nero. Patrick did the morning news for 12 of his 16 years at Ch 9, until being moved to weekends when Rose was hired.

Patrick says he was offered a 90-day contract to work through end of June. Asked if he hopes it will turn into something more than that, Patrick says: "I told Bill Fee (GM) and Bob Morford (news director) that I'm coming in with no expecation. I'll show up and do the best I can. If at some point they need more, they'll need to approach me."

After leaving Ch. 9 at the end of the year, Patrick -- whose real name is Paul Smith -- has worked 30 hours a week as multimedia director for the Business Courier. He also does freelance video production, and operates the Good News Network (www.tgnn.com) which produces Christian "good news" stories for TV and the Web.

Excellent move. They should have never cut Brian loose in the first place

It's great to see Brian Patrick back on the air, but can't channel 9 make up there minds on who they want to be on their air? First they move Brian Patrick from the morning show with Julie to the weekend evenings, then they decide to not renew his contract and let him go, and now they want him back on the air to save them for not renewing David Roses contract. Give me a break. I will not be watching Channel 9 now anyway.

I like brian patrick, but come-on he will make me go back to sleep.

Lets make it 90 days Brian followed by 90 days Randy Little.

Admit it, you've missed him!

Sounds like Ch 9 is grasping for straws...
Dumping Brian Patrick to only ask him back because their morning anchor (hired with a well-known, troubled past) misbehaved again is ridiculous and irresponsible!
Having a "90-day fill-in" for the morning show really solves nothing. More importantly, who's going to do the 5:30 evening show??
It's time to stop "saving money" by averaging only one anchor (predominantly female) per broadcast. Ch 9 DESPERATELY needs to hire NEW, quality male talent...and quickly!!!

This whole situation of what "channel 9 did not want you to know" was apparently brought out in the open by Newsblues.com yesterday. Looks like they are better investigatiors than you Kisewetter.

do you think that they will put a biography back on WCPO.com's website of Brian Patrick for the 90 days?

APUZZO SUING FOX 19

Rich Apuzzo, who was abruptly canned as chief meteorologist at Raycom's WXIX-19-Fox in Cincinnati (Market #33) in October, has sued the station for breach of contract and is demanding a trial by jury.

The station ended Apuzzo's 13 years of employment by exercising an early termination clause in his contract, which was due to expire in 2008. At the time of his dismissal, Apuzzo told the Cincinnati Enquirer it was "not totally unexpected" and "it was not a friendly situation, and something I'll need to dispute in some way."

Brian Patrick is a good man. If I was in his shoes I'd say there's no way I'd come back after just being let go. BUT, money talks in this business. I take my hat off to him.

The chemistry on the show will be extremely low I'm sure. I know it was when he and Katherine did their on-air auditions together for Good Morning Tri-State.

Oh well. We'll see.

What's wrong with Paul professing his faith and building an organization to spread the good news?

Knowing Christ isn't scary. Not knowing Him is.

In regard to Apuzzo's lawsuit... can we all say frivolous???? Is David Rose next.....

EXCELLENT MOVE! Channel 9 actually got something right! Now if they'll just make it permanate.

The really scary thing is WCPO lets Brian Patrick and Michael Flannery go, and yet for some reason, they continue to let Lisa Feldhaus on the air to fill in on traffic reports. Do they not watch their own shows? She seems very nice, but she seems like she can barely read the script. And she isn't getting any better with time.

It's really a shame. Not sure what happened with David but he and Katherine were a good team. And Larry is a class guy-on and off camera. I have yet to find a decent alternative.

I think over the past few months that David Rose tried to monopolize the morning show. He was constantly talking over Kathrine whether she was just talking or trying to read the script.

I don't know who "Paul" is, but there is nothing wrong with building a website to profess your faith, and there is nothing wrong with me expressing an opinion that I think it's scary. That's what is so great about America!

If you want to know Christ, that's fine. I'm sure that's what you were raised with. Others want to know Budda, others want to know Yahweh, others want to know Allah. Others are fine on their own. There is nothing scary about NOT knowing Christ for those who follow other religions.

That said, would you have made the same supportive statement if Brian Patrick was Muslim?

at 3/29/2007 2:05 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon 13:08... If Paul Smith/Brian Patrick was Muslim, I would have said the same thing. A website where someone professes their faith, any faith, isn't a scary thing to me.

I totally agree with you. We all have an opinion, a choice in what we like or don't like. We can choose who or what to believe in or not believe in.

Don't believe in a Creator? Think people with faith are a little scary? That's cool. But what if there is a Creator?

Can someone please tell me why I should believe in a Creator? Because right now, the way I see it, I'm here to live, be nice, die and then decomposite into the soil.

I know I should be nice. There are laws I live by. But why does it matter if my only purpose is to live a good life and then die? If this is my life, why bother living?

Shouldn't life have a purpose? Shouldn't life have hope? If there is a Creator, does this mean there is a heaven? And if there is a heaven, is being nice enough to get there?

I have been a faithful Channel 9 viewer for years but I now find myself thinking of watching another morning show. I am not sorry to see David Rose leave because eventhough he and Katherine
were good together, it was obvious that David felt he was the star of the show. I never could watch Brian Patrick he is soooooo dry and
monotone and I have always wondered why someone at Channel 9 didn't advise Julie on her make-up.
She always has it way overdone. We are in trouble for a good morning news show.

I liked David Rose but he did seem tired in the mornings. I was surprised about Mike Flannery. Didnt they like him helping people? He mainly helped children but what was wrong with that? I think Denise Johnson who does traffic is a babe!!!
What ever happened to The Dish on Friday Mornings?

The Dish was pulled off the air by Ch 12 in January, after losing its major sponsor. Ch 12 managers say a retooled version will return by fall.... but I'll believe it when I see it.

Brian Patrick is fine on the air. You can certainly tell Katherine isn't happy. If she is, she hides it well. I'm tired of Channel 9. I've watched you for the last 17 years. Today was my last time. Hire, fire, offer a bone to a former employee, but no job for real; got rid of the best thing you had going, Michael Flannery. WHO picks the traffic chicks? OMG. Palleeessee. I guess you really lost me when you let Brian go. bye.
