Cindy Matthews Returns To TV

Cindy Matthews -- who vanished from Ch 9 last summer -- returns to TV Friday to fill in during Sheila Gray's maternity leave from "Fox 19 In The Morning." Matthews will appear on the show Thursday, and then co-host with Rob Williams on Friday, the day Gray is scheduled to deliver her baby.

Matthews was last seen subbing during Kathrine Nero's maternity leave from Ch 9's morning show. Ch 9 news director Bob Morford told me last fall Matthews was taking some time off from TV to travel Asia and elsewhere. She called Ch. 19 to offer her services knowing that Gray was expecting soon, and Tricia Macke was headed for maternity leave immediately after the May sweeps ends May 23.

"I think Cindy is a great choice. She'll do a good job, and she's such a nice person," Gray says.

Are you looking forward to seeing Cindy Matthews back on the air?

I always referred to her as the blond bombshell from Channel 9!

In all sincerity, she seems funny, well respected, and will be a suitable replacement for Sheila in the mornings.

Also, what will this do for her long term? Set her up for a move to another market? I hope not.

Cindy, we have missed ya! Can't wait to hear you again on the tube.

NO! I think we covered this last time Sheila was out. Stick with the folks we know. Once again Meghan Mongello get's the short end of the stick. Way to take care of your own...

In my humble opinion this is a great choice.

I agree with the sticking with the folks that we know. There are too many changes in this market. I bet there is someone there (a reporter)that is more desreving of being an anchor than bringing her in. I was suprised that Channel 9 had her make the transition from Traffic reporter to anchor when there were reporters there that were better than her at anchoring.

meghan mongello anchors the 430 am edition of fox 19 morning news.

I think cindy matthews is a great choice for 19. I was wondering who was going to sub in for tricia when her baby was born.
Another great move by 19.

cindy who?

Who? Only you, "Keese" can drool over the dumb blonde news airheads in town.
Only you ... the person who thinks Sherry Pullello belongs on air here and not learning the ropes in Peoria. I can't take it anymore.
What personality these blondes have!
Cindy Mathooze? Horrid.
Sherry? Even worse.

Seems like a nice person, but I was never impressed with her traffic or anchor work at Ch. 9
Perhaps this will be the right combination for her.
Seems strange to me that people like Diana Lara, who used to get right to the point with traffic reporting, isn't on any of the stations! Instead she hosts shows in Dayton....

Some of you bloggers need a lesson in manners. What does her being blond have to do with anything? Looking forward to seeing you back Cindy. :)

I guess it's easier for managment not to tease (a deserving hard working) reporter that's already on the payroll with a temporary anchor gig only to yank it away from them later.

At least they didn't bring back the robotic Kim Moening again.

hey 9:02, do some research before you spout off nasty comments.
A quick glance at Sheree's bio will show you that has been plenty of places before she came back here. The most recent one is Charlotte, which happens to be a higher market than Cincinnati. Hardly think she needs to learn the ropes.

Then you've not been watching the unwatchable.
You can feel her tension flowing through the screen.
Not good.
Might be a better reporter than "anchor."
The main anchors in town are Sandra Ali, Kit Andrews & Carol Williams.
They talk to you - they don't beg for your attention.
It's annoying, that's all.

Who cares.
Where's Tom Sussi and his bone!

The good news for you is, if you don't like her, don't watch her.

Come on folks. After all this is channel 19 we are talking about. How many people watch their news , 15 or 16, or maybe an even 20.
Really!!

Last time I checked ratings 19 was 2nd overall with total viewers.
what another post by a useless 5 staffer.

One uninformed person asks how many people actually watch 19? Plenty. They are the biggest recent success story in Cincinnati news. A large, growing audience morning and night that is the envy of management at 9, 12, and 5. In other words...$$$$.

I can't wait to see Cindy!
9 was crazy to let her go -- I'm switching stations just to see her in the morning. She's smart and professional and really easy to relate to (plus -- easy on the eyes!).
Great move, 19!!

For those scoring at home I'm one of the so called 15 - 20 people that does watch 19's morning news. I think they do fine job with the limited resources they have.

Bring back the bone!

I'll be watching tomorrow -

Dan Carroll (sp) is one of my fav's - he is funny and sharp.

Valerie - she is funny too

I'm a loyal 19 watcher, and watch it every morning before work.

One day is one day – but for the sake of example - yesterday at 4:40am 19 was #1 in the time period against national competition. #2 at 5am against local competition. #2 at 6am against local competition. #1 7-9am against national competition. In just over 10 years, their morning news operation has established itself quite well. And while The Bone back in Cincy would be fun to watch - he's probably very happy causing a rukus in Orlando and shaking things at FOX affiliate WFOL.

"Dan Carroll" and "witty and sharp" in the same sentence...? Wow. And I bet you think Pat Barry is a great talent as well...? Yikes.

Now I remember who Cindy Matthews is... She did a good job. It was funny watching her wait for Rob to finish his lines.

Don't quite get the "blonde bombshell" comment from earlier on though...

Murdock

When you compare what was at CPO when she was there (nero, williams, etc), she WAS the blonde bombshell against the rest of the folks.....

I agree...she kept waiting and waiting and waiting this morning....but all in all, they did a respectable job for the first day together

I think they will get the timing down better next week.
