Two New Anchors For Channel 9

Two anchors are better than one. That's the theory among WCPO-TV (Channel 9) managers, who will replace David Rose with two anchor-reporters sometime next month. Rose, whose contract was not renewed in March, had worked a split shift – co-anchoring "Good Morning Tri-State" and the 5:30 p.m. weekday newscasts.

Channel 9 is doing auditions this month, after a national anchor search. There are also some internal candidates from the Channel 9 reporting staff, says Bill Fee, Channel 9 vice president and general manager.

The new morning co-anchor also will report during the day. The evening co-anchor will report for the 11 p.m. news, Fee says.

"Although David was a very hard worker, we decided to go the traditional route," he says. Rose started at Channel 9 five years ago as an early evening co-anchor and 11 p.m. reporter.

The anchor positions will be filled by early next month, Fee says.

Of the guys on staff, who should get a shot at anchoring? John Matarese, Lance Barry? Jay Warren?

Brian Patrick should be allowed to stay on, in fact he never should have been let go.

When will Channel 9 ease our pain and bring back the substantial anchor talents of Mr. Randy Little?

I think they should hire 2 fresh faces from the Nationwide search!

What about Andy T. who used to be 19?

They might be able to get some folks from 12. Word is the new owners are going to have everyone reapply for their jobs--at 80% of their current salary.

Here's my question---
If they are going to make the new morning co-anchor report during the day and the new evening co-anchor report at 11,
Why in the heck don't they make Kathrine Nero report AT ALL?!?!?!
I think she needs to report during the day, as most of the competition has their morning folks do reporting elsewhere...

Brian Patrick should be one of the two.

I agree that Brian Patrick should stay in the mornings...he's a smooth pro and easy presence in the AM.

A new face at 5:30 would be fine, or Jay Warren seems to do very well on weekends. I've noticed Shannon Kettler getting some anchor time, but unless she had her apparent deviated septum repaired to relieve the nasally sound of her voice, she should stick to reporting.

"Word" is wrong.

Channel 9 could get Deb Silverman. But then again, her face would break if she ever smiled. A dull constant monotone.

I miss David Rose's liveliness in the mornings... They should hire another spunky younger guy.

I think Lance does a nice job.

So according to Rick Bird's article, David Rose won Best Anchor Award for 2006 from the Ohio Associated Press! What's up WCPO?

Read in Tuesday's C-Post that David Rose was named the best anchor in the major market category last weekend by the Ohio Associated Press. Good timing for Channel 9, eh?

Bring back Randy Little. He's credible, good delivery. I don't know why other stations haven't picked him up.

Have noticed Lynn Giroud on the morning anchor desk this week. Woohoo, her and Denise Johnson on the same news program -- smokin hot!!!

I am a recent college graduate/journalism major from Miami-- with no prior broadcast experience-- and I'm absolutely certain I could deliver a better broadcast than all of the below:
1) Shannon Kettler
2) Lynn Giroud
3) John Materese (no question there)
4) Deb Silverman

Are there no decent candidates out there? Call me. I'll fill in. Let's get some liveliness back at Channel 9.

I agree that RANDY LITTLE would be great.
He is one of the most professional TV people in Cincinnati

Recent college grad? Woman? Let me guess... blonde? I bet WCPO would put you on as a traffic reporter or netcast host...

I saw Lynn Giroud anchoring the other morning. She was good and should not be on your list. I can't speak about the others though. What I can say is that the content of the morning show does need some help especially what stories they say at the begining of the 6:00am hour. If I watch channel 9 at all in the morning it is for Larry Handley and the weather which I get in watching the first 5 minutes of their news. If I want content I watch channel 19 or channel 12.

Lindsay (6/25/2007 2:02pm) you ought to see if you can go to work for channel 9's web site. The talent that they have on there giving the updates in the afternoon are horrible. Once in a while I get on there at work to see what the latest stories are, but can't make it past the first page because of this. Being that this is the case, I keep on wondering why they push there web page after every newscast?

Sorry for the delay of response... I also agree that web updates are pretty horrendous. I think they're an excellent idea, but poorly executed. Maybe I will put my money where my mouth is and see if there are any jobs available! :) I think the evening newscast is great, but many of the other anchors are mediocre at best most days.
