ESPNU, ESPN2HD Arrive August 29

Just in time for the college football season, ESPN2HD and ESPNU will arrive on Time Warner Cable in Greater Cincinnati on Aug. 29.

Someone noted in a post on my blog yesterday that Time Warner had listed the new channels in the "Channel Lineup Change Notifications" page on its website. http://www.timewarnercable.com/cincinnati/programming/legal_notices2.html

Here are more details announced this morning:

--ESPNU, with 70 football games this year, will be digital Channel 110 in most communities. That’s on the digital value tier, not the standard tier. In former Adelphia areas, ESPNU will be on Channel 125.
--ESPN Classic will cost more. It will move from Channel 32, on the standard tier, to Channel 109 on the digital value tier, to package with ESPNU.
--ESPN2HD will be on Channel 976 on the high definition standard tier, provided at no additional cost to TWC customers with HDTVs.
--Outdoor Life moves from Channel 109 to Channel 177.
--The Asian-American AZN moves from Channel 110 to Channel 159.
--Channel 32 will be vacant for now.
--All customers will receive a new channel lineup by mail this month, says Karen Baxter, local spokeswoman for Time Warner, Greater Cincinnati’s biggest cable opeator.

Since debuting in 2005, ESPNU has televised several UC, Xavier, Kentucky and Miami University basketball games – including the Crosstown Shootout last year -- and some UC and Miami football games. ESPNU also carries men’s and women’s college basketball, baseball, softball, ice hockey, volleyball, wrestling and lacrosse.

ESPNU has been available to Insight cable customers in Northern Kentucky, and on the Lebanon city cable system.

So ESPN2HD will be free? The non-network "free" HDTV channels are 969 TNT HD and 970 Discovery HD. 971-976 cost extra, and I thought ESPN2 HD was going to be added to that tier.

John - Do you know if any of this applies to former Adelphia customers that are now stuck with Time Warner? We have a different channel line-up and fewer HD channels (no TNT or Discovery HD) than original Time Warner customers. I haven't been able to get anything out of them as far as their plans for synching up the services. Any help would be appreciated.

Time Warner once again screws us basic cable customers over.

Now, if we can just get the NFL Network . . .

Well that SO STINKS ESPN CLASSIC is going digital. While I DO have digital now, that stinks for folks who do not.

ESPN has done HORRIBLE covering NASCAR this season and need to learn from the old races on ESPN CLASSIC. They have also run alternative races for IRL or NASCAR on the Classic channel when weather delays (MUST NOT let ESPN cancel BINGO OR POKER 'sporting events'!?!? )

By the way john, the outdoor channel got mover over a year ago. I know because I HATE the station but did watch some of the off course racing on it..I think the Dakar (sp) Rally was carried on it as was the Pike's peak races. I am not into hunting.

But I am ALSO not into how TW keeps bumping up stuff to DIGITAL.

A lot of places got SPEED channel on regular stations but if you want to watch Form 1 races, or pre NASCAR shows or other racing, you are lost without SPEED's coverage compared to the pathetic TNT and now ESPN drek.

They also removed the game show station last year and bumped IT to a higher tier. LUDICROUS..some older folks gotta kick out of those OLDER game shows and lost the ability to do so.

Time Warner stinks but I have heard too many stories from consumers and local consumer folks, "customer service" for satellite is even WORSE!!!

*sigh*

As a former Time Warner Cable subscriber anyone reading this blog should dump TWC and go to Dish or Direct TV. I was a dish customer for 9 years and got lured to TWC with a great promotion. Then it ended, and by the time it was over I had less channels and was being billed $117 per month for cable & 2 DVR's. Dumped them and went to DIRECTV and am very happy with the programming. As long as you have a good view to the Southwest and have a good installer then you will have no rain fade or loss of signal. Oh, and I have 2 DVR's now and by bill is $67 per month. So my advice is walk, no wait run away from Time Warner! The HD Signal is out of this world on DirecTV. Words can not describe the quality difference from Time Warner's digital offerings. Just my 2 cents worth.

As part of Time Warner's new carriage agreement with Disney they agreed to move ESPN out of the HD Tier. So also on August 29th you should be able to see ESPN without paying extra for it.

Also, it's time to be proactive and add the Big Ten Network.
I'm fine with paying more for more - it's what every other company in every other industry does, so people need to stop expecting handouts just because it's in your living rooms.
What drives me nuts is simply not being able to have access to certain channels. Couple that with having multiple channels that no one wants (WE, Lifetime, Lifetime Movies, Lifetime Terrible Movies, Lifetime Even Worse Movies, and TW is extremely frustrasting. Although, I have found that if you have a problem, call them and let them know, then ask for a refund for your troubles and you'll get it.

Also TIME WARNER REMOVES STATIONS and ADDS NONE so we pay more and get less on the regular tvs. We have both in this house.

They took away the OUTDOOR network and game network (and I think another one) and now ESPN CLASSIC.

Also we do NOT NEED THREE RELIGIOUS channels or a PERPETUAL INFOMERCIAL channel (Channel 2 )And do NOT get me started on 70 percent of the stations being INFOMERCIALS if you are a late night person. It's digusting. Also during the day at random times.

Lifetime used to be a fun channel years ago but now seem to focus only on WOMEN IN PERIL who fall for guys who are murderers/rapist/stalkers. WHY DO WOMEN WATCH THAT CRAP?? ! movie out of 50 might be good but who wants to sit thru 49 movies to get the one decent one. And Oxygen (Oprah will do ANYTHING to improve her Billionaire status) A very lame station, and WE and there is MTV that needs to go, go, go!!! I could think of some others but haven't had my coffee yet.

Basic cable customers should NOT KEEP getting ripped off.

It STINKS.

this sounds great -- so let me get this straight --

as of August 29th, I will get ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD on the standard tier (i don't have the cable box)?

if so that is great!

I think that Sophia and I are probably the only women who post here. From what I've read in posts in the past year, it looks like the rest of the posters are men.
My mother watches Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Channel. I do periodically watch some of the movies on Oxygen or WE. And--I know this is going to horrify many of you--I watch a sports program about once every six months at the most, and when I do, the sport has nothing whatsoever to do with baseball, football, basketball, car racing or wrestling.
And ESPN Classic was interesting to me, not for the old NFL games, but for the old sports-related movies.
I agree with Sophia that there are too many religious channels and too many channels with overnight paid programming.
So my complaints about Time Warner are always different from the rest of your complaints. I've never forgiven it for removing Hallmark from the basic cable lineup.

Skipper

Nice to see another female type but must say I NEVER remember TW having Hallmark on 'basic cable'. I have had TW for years and only got HALLMARK when we upgraded to digital.

Do you live in SW Ohio as i know many different packages are offered in different parts of the country maybe?

Anyhoo, the ubiquitous PAID INFOMERCIAL junk needs to go. It's insulting to all of us.

Yes, once in a while there ARE good movies on one of those Lifetime channels or an INTIMATE PORTRAIT with somebody I am interested in.

But I also find the "style" network pretty useless unless I am too old for the junk on there. But honestly, I haven't watched that station since we first got digital last year and I think now it's on basic. But still, my gripe is STATIONS BEING REMOVED w/o TW ADDING A REPLACEMENT.

I don't think we get a clear view of the SW...lots of trees...and I have heard 'ice on the dish' is an issue and who the heck can climb up a ladder in freezing rain and snow to watch tv??

Happy for those who liked satellite but know of some who made the LEAP only to leap back to Cable due to costs of boxes, parts, poor customer service. AND the loss of signal during a movie or game.

Is it possible that Time Warner is leaving Ch. 32 open for the Big 10 Network??

at 8/28/2007 10:59 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think there's any chance that 32 is being reserved for the Big Ten, nor NFL network. If TW ever decided to add either of these channels, they would be (at minimum) on the digital tier.
