Do You Know Andrea Shirley?

I need your help: Do you know Andrea Shirley, 28, the Cincinnati area contestant on "The Bachelor: Rome?" All ABC will say is that she’s "a hotel concierge who currently resides in Cincinnati."
Did you go to school or college with her? Live in her neighborhood? Work with her? Know she was in Italy taping the show in late August?
If so, please email me at jkiesewetter@enquirer.com. And please provide your name and daytime phone number, so I can reach you.
Andrea and her family can’t talk to the press until she exits the show, so I’m counting on you. Tell me what you know.
"The Bachelor: Rome" premieres Monday, Oct. 2, on ABC (9-11 p.m., Ch 9). Andrea is one of 27 women – 25 Americans and two "Italian beauties" – seeking to impress Italian Prince Lorenzo Borghese.

Fall TV stuff
Thanks for the comments on "Shark," "Brothers & Sisters" and "Studio 60." I think all three will make it…. I really liked the second "Studio 60" last night, but worry that it was maybe too much inside TV stuff – the network press conference (been to many of those), the reference to Fox, the talk about small TV markets refusing to carry the show…
Did you like the second episode?

Did anyone like NBC’s "Heroes?" The characters interested me, but I thought they failed to connect enough dots for me. It will be interesting to see if viewers stick with it. (NBC repeats Monday’s pilot at 8 p.m. today.) Or watch it at www.nbc.com.

Also new tonight: Ted Danson as a psychiatrist on "Help Me Help You" at 9:30 p.m., immediately following "Dancing with the Stars." The sitcom was average, certainly not as clever as the "Danson on ABC" promo that airs during "Dancing."

Local alert
Daniel Wisler, 25, of Fairfield makes his debut on "The Unit" (9 p.m., Ch. 12) as Jeremy Erhart, a U.S. Army veteran being heavily recruited by Molly Blane (Regina Taylor) for the private sector, much to the chagrin of "The Unit" members.

Radio note
I was surprised to hear WCIN-AM (1480) all the way up I-71 to the Little Miami River bridge. After a five-year wait, the FCC finally approve a power increase for WCIN-AM from 250 to 4,500 watts daytime. The power boost will make the station more attractive to potential buyers. The station was placed in receivership in January, so it can be sold to pay off debts more than $950,000. More details are in my story today:

Buy the Book
For you fans of "The Book of Daniel," the NBC drama quickly canceled last January about Aidan Quinn as a pill-popping minister: The entire series, including four episodes not aired by NBC, is being released on DVD today by Universal Studios Home Entertainment ($29.98). The 2-disc set includes the two-hour pilot and deleted scenes.

I became increasingly bored with the MNF tribute to New Orleans, so I flipped over and started watching Studio 60. I was recording it via DVR and I planned on watching it tonight. Anyway, I watched it and really enjoy the show. As someone who has been behind the scenes in tv and radio, I find it very enjoyable. This show is a nice change of pace from the CSI's and Law & Orders. Plus, the character development on this show is setup to go in a million different directions. So you can certainly see they have plenty to write about.
I am hoping The Unit gets better. Last weeks show was very weak in my mind. The show appears to struggle at times as to which direction it wants to go. Obviously, they have the main storyline with the unit, but the woman's storylines are awful. I suppose its the complete change of pace that they keep switching back and forth from. Hopefully it changes tonight.
Also, can you please help me out with something? How is it possible that the show "War At Home" is still on Sunday Nights? I DVR The Simpsons, American Dad and The Family Guy, but I never watch the War at Home. I saw it last year and it was terrible. I was just wondering what the ratings were for that show.
thanks and enjoy.

WLWT-TV/Ch. 5 Searching for New Chief Meteorologist

Jim O'Brien has been told his contract is not being renewed.

Any suggestions?

Jim O'Brien leaving is not breaking news... I heard it over a week ago... I didn't know his contract wasn't being renewed though... I heard that Derek Beasly has already been named Chief... My suggestion if not would be to get Dave Fraser back from Denver... he was the best meteorologist 5 has had in years (next to Angelique Frame)

Heard they were "quietly" negotiating with another meteorologist in town at a different station.

That door with the big "5" on it, just can't stop revolving. Despite OB's shortcomings on the air, I've been told he's a great guy. But we all know what happens to nice guys, especially in broadcasting.

hey how about dave fraser and his wife kathy(ellis)formerly of channel 9 as the first husband and wife weather team

Wow, Jim O'Brian is leaving....I am surprised. I never liked his style, but I thought most did. He annoyed me.

Now can we get rid of Steve Raleigh?

I was glad to see that Angelique Frame is working again in Sacramento. Looks like Greg McKinney didn't renew his contract in Spokane and they have moved to Sacramento. I really liked her and was angry over what Channel 5 did to her. Was so glad to see her on Channel 12.

I'm so glad that Jim O'Brien is leaving. I can stand to look at him if the tv is muted. He has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard.

Did anyone else notice the blog went off on a tangent?

Maybe the author doesn't post on relevant topics??

i've heard the norris speculation, too, but i thought he finally signed at ch. 9???

watched news5 tonite and i dont know if it was just me or did they actually seem relaxed? and i like how direct you to their new web address of wlwt.com instead of channelcincinnati.com it reminds me of how 9 went from cincinow.com to cincinnati.com to just plain ol wcpo.com

at 9/26/2006 11:50 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah and candice the barbie doll hunter along with sheree as anchor was the best looking team in the tristate

at 9/27/2006 12:32 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What station in town HASN'T steve norris worked at??? He's been at 19, free-lanced at 5 for a bit before settling on 9. Why not go for the 12/64 slam dunk?

Norris' Notes: Find new job.

Can't say I'm surprised 5 is ushering someone else out the door. I'm sure Dave Wagner's next - he's been there too long and I'm sure they don't want to pay his price anymore when they can get younger, cheaper, ever-more disposable bodies.

Why on earth would anyone sign to be chief meteorologist at channel 5 when none has lasted longer than their initial contract? Tom Burse, Dave Frasier, Angelique Frame, Byron Weber, now Jim O'Brien? Seriously - has any lasted longer than one cycle?? Watch out Derek Beasley - you're days are numbered once you sign on that line. Get yourself some good outs!!!

And how are we supposed to take ANY channel 5 advertising seriously when they fire the tri-state's undisputed severe weather leader????

at 9/27/2006 12:57 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey, add WHIO to Norris' Notes. When he did the news with Cathy Ballou.....you know, that was a good morning show.

at 9/27/2006 12:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

too bad about jim o'brien. he seems like a genuine person off the air, but what a tough break. hopefully, this kind of news about channel 5s revolving door goes all around the nation so they will get stuck with subpar talent and no ratings. isn't he supposed to be the "undisputed....trusted meteorlogist in the tristate?" that's like not renewing carson palmer's (the best QB in the NFL) contract for a QB to be named later. The head guys at channel 5 must be a bunch of boneheads. Either that or they have the mentality of the Fox News Channel when they just hire beautiful people to give us the news. Poor channel 5. What's it like to be at the bottom of the barrel?

at 10/26/2006 11:09 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Derek Beasley is not a no name. He has a reputation for his severe weather coverage and Hearst knows he will lead them to the top. I know first hand that Derek did not usher in this radical change, instead was just a beneficiary in the move. The morning numbers are solid, let’s give him a chance people.
