Searching for a station
Yes, another radio note today, but this is pretty cool. I just heard about a website where you can look at and compare play lists for radio stations. So if you're looking for a new station to replace "Jammin' Oldies," or just curious about who's playing what, go to www.yes.com.
If you type Cincinnati into the search engine, it will give you a list of area radio stations. Click on the station, and you get the real-time play list. Pretty cool.
Shark bites tonight
James Woods' new "Shark" drama debuts at 10 p.m. today (Ch 12) against ABC's new "Six Degrees" and NBC's "ER." Of the three, I'd watch "Shark." Woods plays an egocentric defense-lawyer-turned-assistant prosecutor who denegrates the young staffers who admire him and want to learn from him. (Sounds like "House?") I think it will take a bite out of aging "ER," which is due a drop in the ratings. I didn't like "Six Degrees" that much. Creator J.J. Abrams does connect-the-dots between six strangers in NY, but I couldn't get emotionally invested with the characters. To me, it doesn't compare with the magnetic pull of his "Lost," "Alias" or "Felicity." I see this as third in the time period, maybe second if "ER" struggles out of the gate.
Sunday best
The show not to miss Sunday is Calista Flockhart's "Brothers & Sisters" at 10 p.m. (Ch. 9). After watching it, I can see why it got the prized time slot following "Desperate Housewvies," which returns at 9 p.m. Sunday. (Though I wouldn't have moved "Grey's Anatomy" to 9 p.m. Thursday against "CSI," but maybe it doesn't matter in our TiVo world. I bet ABC moves "Grey's" before Thanksgiving to another slot.)
"B&S," like "The West Wing," requires full attention so you can figure out who's who in the premiere, but that won't be a problem after a week or two.
Flockhart stars as daughter Kitty, a conservative radio talk host in NY. She comes home to LA to see her parents (Tom Skerritt, Sally Field) and sisters and brothers (Rachel Griffiths, Matthew Rhys, Dave Annable, Balthazar Getty). The cast also includes Patricia Wettig and Ron Rifkin. Think "thirtysomething" for a new generation of viewers. (Ken Olin from thirtysomething is executive producer/director.) This one could be a hit, especially in tandem to "Desperate Housewives."
If you watch "Shark" or "Brothers & Sisters," -- or anything else that you love or hate -- let me know. I'm outta here Friday. Will catch up to you Monday.

If you want music online, try Jack-FM in Chicago. It's better than any other station in town.
If you really want good radio - invest in a Sirius satellite radio! Cincinnati radio has WAY too many commercials. None of that on satellite - and you can stay on your favorite station cross-country without having to do a channel scan. And there's virtually anything you want to listen to oldies, current hits, talk radio, country, religious - you name it. I will never go back to regular radio!!!
Kiese- While Bros&Sis may be good, nothing in my mind will top Studio 60. By far, the best show since the West Wing. The pace of the script and chemistry was amazing. Caught it on Bravo last night and it still held my attention! Absolutely the leader for drama emmy next year.
Holy CRAP! www.yes.com is super cool. Fer cryin out loud - it even works for WDJO!
Anyone have an idea on how it works???
Shark wasn't bad but i don't think it will make it
regarding yes.com- we considered using it for WNKU instead of manually posting our playlists (available on our website), but we found that it got some songs wrong and did not recognize others- some that seemed like it should have, even considering our rather eclectic library. so keep in mind when using it that it may not be 100% accurate.
www.yes.com lists WKRQ-FM (Q102) as "greatest hist of the 60s and 70s"! (The "hist" typo is correct.)
Hi, Kies:
I was very impressed with the premiere of Brothers & sisters, but the whining needs to be toned down just a tad.(that was always a big complaint with thirtysomething
(And I was thirtysomething back then. Also enjoy "Til death".
In another vein, if i hear Jim Scott say "live" one more time I am going to scream..... I have heard exactly the same interview twice in one morning word for word.... Come one now.

Hi John
I thought Brothers and Sisters was ok...but personally, I am tired of all the "mood music" used to create the tone of a scene. Sounds like an excuse for lazy writing.
Music montages(sp?) have been used for decades on soaps and I didn't like their use then either.
And I ditto the comment about too much whining. These characters are going to have to get lots more interesting for me and if all the music stuff continues, I will not be watching more than another episode anyway.
I never liked all the music shoved in my face on Greys Anatomy so I made be the odd ball out...just lost interest in that show as well.
Keep on blogging John and be well.

In the past two weeks I have watched six new series, and surprisingly, liked five of them. They were Brothers and Sisters, Jericho, Ugly Betty, Six Degrees and Men in Trees. Of the group, I liked Jericho and Men in Trees the best. I worry that Ugly Betty will hit "too close to home" for me and I don't know if I'll be able to watch it sometimes.
My problem with Six Degrees is that I found the characters of the teenage girl on the lam and the African-American man forced to join his brother in his criminal activities to be too cliched, and this second plot is probably politically incorrect anyway. But the other storylines are interesting.
The one show I tried to watch because it had gotten so much advance praise was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I have never watched much of either Saturday Night Live or The West Wing and I think most of the plot went past me. And many of the characters looked alike. I only watched half of it and wasn't that interested.
Shark was actually really really good last night
