Broadcasting & Cable magazine has asked TV writers to pick their best and worst shows. So can you help me decide what are the best and worst – broadcast or cable -- that aired anytime in 2006?
Best Overall Program: Grey’s Anatomy? The Daily Show? 24?
Best Comedy: The Office? Two and A Half Men? The Simpsons? The Daily Show?
Best Drama: Grey’s Anatomy? 24? The Wire?
Best Reality: American Idol? Survivor? Dancing with the Stars? Amazing Race?
Worst Program: Happy Hour? 3 Lbs?
Most Memorable TV Moment? (This one stumped me.)
Thanks for your help!
Best show is clear: Battlestar Galactica!
ReplyDeleteBest reality show ,Dancing with the Stars, best TV moment... Emmitt and Cheryl winning the above. Worst, Mario and and Karina pouting and mouthing off about getting gyped.
ReplyDeletebest overall=House md
ReplyDeletecomedy=simpsons
drama house md
reality=dwts
worst=biggest loser
most memorable=springer on being voted out of dwts
What about Lost
ReplyDeleteBest Overall Program: House. Why? Its unlike anything else on television. A truly compelling lead character that could not have been convincingly played by anyone else that comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy: Local TV News. A joke. Best Drama: Heroes. Compelling week in and week out. What could have been corny and quickly pulled slowly grew into a great show.
Best Reality: All crap. I don't watch.
Best Overall Program - LOST or Brother's & Sisters
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy - UGLY BETTY on ABC
Best Drama - Grey's
Best Reality - Top Chef
Worst Program - Men in Trees
Most Memorable TV Moment - Grey's when Meredith and McDreamy got back together.
Best overall: "No Reservations" Anthony Bourdain.
ReplyDeleteBest Drama: House
Best Comedy: The Daly Show
Best Reality Program; Hell's Kitchen
Amendment to my 12:50
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy; "Good Eats" Alton Brown (this does require a liberal interpretation of the category, I suppose, but Brown is one of the most creative people on TV).
Also, most missed program: "The Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin
To 12:50--
ReplyDeleteYou picked two "comedies." Still interesting picks. Bourdain's new season starts Jan 1 10P Travel Channel. Agree with you on that one.
Best overall: 24
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy: My Name is Earl
Best Drama: 24
Best Reality: Big Brother
Worst Program: Oprah
Best "Fired" Newscaster: Jim O'Brien.
ReplyDeleteBest show: Still have to go with CSI.
ReplyDeleteBest Drama: CSI
Best Comedy: Two and Half Men
Worst: The show with Julia-Louis Dreyfus.
Best Overall Program - House M.D.
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy - My Name Is Earl
Best [New] Drama - Shark
Best Reality - Hell's Kitchen
Worst Program - don't watch bad tv!
Most Memorable TV Moment - Jerry Springer hugging daughter Katie after his Waltz with Kym on DWTS
Most compelling moment had to be the ending episode of the Shield, which remains the best show on television. Rescue Me, Thief and Nip/Tuck were outstanding seconds as far as best dramas.
ReplyDeleteMarina Jurica is out at 5.
ReplyDeleteNIP/TUCK?

ReplyDeleteMarina Jurica is out at 5.
What happened? I see she's already missing from the website, though...Jim O'brien is still plastered all over their website.
Best Overall = Battlestar Galactica
ReplyDeleteComedy = The Colbert Report
Drama = The Unit
Reality = Big Brother All-Stars
Worst Show = The View
Most memorable moment = Mr. Eco died
Marina was on the early news this morning...no wonder 5 is in so much trouble - musical chairs are never good to build consistency!
ReplyDeleteBigtime.
ReplyDeleteI thought she was being groomed for mornings with Derek taking over in the evenings.
Did she pull a "Danielle Folquet"?
kiese what happened with marina
ReplyDeletefirst on 5= 5 fooled us leaving us to believe that obrien was getting fired when in all doubt marina quit.
ReplyDeleteMarina wanted to be a full time weather forecaster. 5 just didnt have anywhere to put her besides weekend with johnathan "why do i still have a job and dumbo ears" hawgood.Marina got fed up of big ears and his quirky comments.
Um, no. I don't think she'd have shown up for one show, then left before the noon if that were the case.
ReplyDeleteWhether you're on TV or work in a mall, a job is a job is a job. Sometimes, for whatever reason, things just "don't work out." My guess? She didn't "quit."
ReplyDeleteWhat's the scoop, Kiese?
Seriously though, I wonder if this disappearance is timed with her husband's residency at UK's medical center.
ReplyDeleteC'mon Brend-baby! You obviously read this blog and comment...chime in!
This secret is as good as to whom Michelle Beauti-lette is engaged to.
I can only give half an answer to most of your questions. The only show that I like that the critics like is House.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch reality shows and there hasn't been a sitcom for several years that I've watched. I watch a number of dramas or comedy/dramas but the ones I like are panned by the critics.
To me, the most surprising TV moment of the year was the announcement of the UPN/CW merger.
As for a TV show surprising or memorable moment, the comment about Atlanta in the pilot episode of Jericho made me (and a bunch of other viewers) jump out of our chairs, because it was so unexpected.
who is michelle beutilette engage too
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy: Channel 5 news

ReplyDeleteBest Comedy: Channel 5 news
try channel5 across the board on all of the catagories
Most memorable moment = sheree stumbling over 7 words during each newscast.
ReplyDeletebest overall writing= Studio 60
ReplyDeleteBest overall show= 24
comedy= the office
drama= house, heroes
new drama= Shark
reality= biggest loser
worst= help me help you.
Kiese I love studio 60, but if the ratings keep falling, nbc will not renew it for next season.
Maybe if nbc puts it on a differnt night like tuesday at 9.
Rumor has it Apuzzo is cooking something locally... News 5?
ReplyDeleteI love bunnies.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas everyone!
ReplyDeleteHappy 93rd birthday - Jim Scott!
ReplyDeleteMost memorable moment? A tie: When Star Jones left "The View" and when Rosie O'Donnell joined "The View".
ReplyDeletewhats up with this new weather forecaster kiesha kirkland on 5. That weave doesnt look good at all.
ReplyDeleteWorst moment? when Rosie O'Donnell opened her mouth on "The View".
ReplyDeleteBest Commercial: The sinus medication where the lady at the desk is blowing her nose and her head keeps getting bigger and bigger. As her head enlarges, don't you think she looks just like Rosie O'Donnell?
ReplyDeleteWorst On the Scene Report: Channel 5's Traffic Twerp flying over I-71 in the Chopper the day of the "Gas Can Bomb" scare describing the scene below as being "where the bomb was earlier DETONATED.
Had that been the case, there would have been a hole in the highway where traffic was running smoothly. Send that kid to journalism school to learn some vocabulary. The alledged bomb was DISARMED on the highway and detonated at the shooting range.
"Worst On the Scene Report: Channel 5's Traffic Twerp flying over I-71 in the Chopper the day of the "Gas Can Bomb" scare describing the scene below as being "where the bomb was earlier DETONATED."
ReplyDeleteDude, you do know that the word Detonated was what the cops at the scene used, right? They even said it live during a press conference. Get over it already.
Best overall: Dexter - Showtime
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy: Lucky Louie - HBO
Best Other: Mythbusters
Worst Looking Hosts: Mythbusters
Worst Program: Anything that they have been putting on Channel 64 this year.
One moment that stands out:
ReplyDelete-- Baba Wawa's interview with Terry Irwin after her husband ("the Crocodlie Hunter") died tragically
-- The "Nature" episode about the monkeys that were infected with AIDS in the laboratory and how they are being cared for now that they are not needed.
That was 2 moments, I goofed... :)
ReplyDeleteTwo reasons the "gas can bomb" wouldn't have left a hole in the roadway:
ReplyDelete(1) it wasn't IN the roadway and
(2) pretty sure it was just an old can full of pee.
IMHO, the "Traffic Guy" is the best thing going at that station. Period.
Best Show? House. Hugh Laurie is an incredible actor.
But Heroes and Jericho are so cool. I agree with the previous post about the "Atlanta" moment. And the episode that began with the possible destruction of Cincinnati? Creeeeepy!
It'll be interesting to see who wins the Golden Globes next month!
i think channel 5 would hit rock bottom if they hired apuzzo. the 5pm show is slightly respectable and the 11pm show is plain horrible. apuzzo was bad on 19 and i'd bet he would be bad on 5 too.
ReplyDeleteCincinnati Broadcast history was made today when Keisha Kirkland did the weather. She's the first African-American female to do a weathercast on any of the stations in town.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I feel like it was an on-air audition?
When I dialed up Weatherplus on TWCable at 8:30am, all I saw was Jim O'brien.
so marina quit? did she just high tail it out of there or what? no mention or anything. gotta love that revolving door at channel 5. it's like the energizer bunny... it keeps going and going and going. maybe brennan donellon should take a ride on it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Marina Jurica is also GONE from Channel 5 - her web page has disappeared from their web site and no links to her name at all .....is she joining Jim O'Brien at his new station, wherever that may be????
ReplyDeletebest of the best = House!!
ReplyDeleteBest overall/Drama - Lost
ReplyDeleteBest comedy - The Office
Reality - Project Runway!
Worst - all those new gameshows! William Shatner dancing is horrrible.
Most memorable - Star Jones quitting/being fired
Best Overall - The Office
ReplyDeleteComedy - The Office
Drama - CSI
Reality - Top Chef
Worst - Rachael Ray's talk show. Unwatchable.
Most memorable moment - Connie Chung's exit from her cable news show.
Unrelated side note - How much does Channel 5 not get it? Ken Broo reporting live from the RCA Dome during the second half of the Bengals game. Seriously, what fan was watching News 5 during the game? If they were going to get locker room reaction, it was too late because the game wasn't over until 11:40pm, when Channel 5 was finished with the news.
Best Overall = 24
ReplyDeleteBest Comedy = The Office
Worst program: a tie A) newscasts anchored by pronunciation-butcherers Janell Walton and Tanya O'Rourke and B) the morning show on channel 5
ReplyDeleteBoth make channel 19 news look (and sound) good.
