About Those Time Warner Postcards

Did you receive a postcard from Time Warner saying it could drop Dayton’s WHIO-TV (Channel 7) or WSTR-TV (Channel 64) on Jan. 1? Don’t panic – yet. Here’s the deal: Yes, Time Warner’s contracts to carry Channels 64 and 7 are expiring at the end of the year. (Only the Channel 64 agreement for the old Adelphia systems -- Liberty and Delhi Townships, Amelia, Collinsville and Sardinia -- is up for renewal.)
But the station managers and Time Warner officials are confident the channels will remain on cable, with a new retransmission agreement or an extension. The postcards were mailed because the FCC requires cable companies to give customers 30 days notice before a change in service.
"We don’t want anyone to panic that we’re going to drop WHIO or WSTR. Quite the contrary. We are committed to carrying both these channels. We are optimistic that we will reach an agreement and there will be no interruption in programming. Time Warner Cable is doing everything we can to negotiate in good faith and we hope to reach agreements as soon as possible."
Stay tuned.

Midseason news
ABC finally has announced a date for Jim Belushi’s "According to Jim." It returns 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, as part of ABC’s new 8-10 p.m. comedy block. "Knights of Prosperity" by "Letterman" producer Rob Burnett – originally called "Let’s Rob Mick Jagger" and announced for the fall TV lineup – debuts 9 p.m. that night. It will be followed by "In Case of Emergency," another buddy comedy.
"Lost," which has been virtually tied by CBS’ "Criminal Minds," will return on Feb. 7 at 10 p.m., instead of 9 p.m. So "Lost" won’t air against the "American Idol" results show next year.
Speaking of "American Idol," it returns 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. That’s the same week that "24" debuts with four hours over two nights (8-10 p.m. Sunday-Monday, Jan. 14-15). Rick Schroder (“NYPD Blue”) joins the cast for season six.
Here is Fox’s announcement, in case you haven’t seen it:
"Schroder will play forceful CTU Operative MIKE DOYLE, who teams with JACK BAUER (Kiefer Sutherland) to execute crucial field operations. He joins a list of notable newcomers this season, including Chad Lowe (ER), Powers Boothe (Deadwood), Peter MacNicol (Ally McBeal), Regina King (Ray), James Cromwell (Babe), Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar), Marisol Nichols (In Justice), Alexander Siddig (Syriana), David Hunt (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Harry Lennix (Commander in Chief).
"As previously announced, Emmy nominees Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin return for another day as FIRST LADY MARTHA LOGAN and PRESIDENT CHARLES LOGAN, while Eric Balfour and Carlo Rota reprise their respective roles as CTU contractors MILO PRESSMAN and MORRIS O’BRIAN.
"24’s Season Six will feature Wayne Palmer (DB Woodside), the strong-minded brother of the late President David Palmer; Sandra Palmer (Regina King), a determined and powerful advocacy lawyer; presidential advisor KAREN Hayes (Jayne Atkinson); and CTU colleagues CHLOE O’BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub), CURTIS MANNING (Roger Cross) and BILL BUCHANAN (James Morrison)."
I can't wait!

  1. John,

What's the word regarding TimeWarner's lousy digitization of channels 87 and below? Watching football and all other programming stutter is horrible.

  2. Since when is WHIO on Time Warner? Not where I live...

  3. I miss seeing the Dayton channels. Then again, it's been 13 years since that's happened.

If TW wants to improve, the should include Dayton and those dang skipping and freezing of those channels.

  5. Yes, how many people out there are having problems with their digital cable? The other night I had to turn "Grey's Anatomy" off because the signal was unwatchable. When you talk to TW, they act as if you are unique with the problem. Are we being terribly misled by them so they don't have to offer a credit?

  6. I have the same problem with the digital cable periodically, so it's not just you.

  7. they removed the majority of the west cost duplicates to "save on bandwith"and we have 14 duplicate channels ie 1900 to 1914. what gives twcable? i have kinda solved my picture freezing and pixelating once about every 10 days or so i unplug the converter box wait 30 seconds plug it back in and it works for a while but its a no fix for non converter box sets but at least my hd box doesnt seem to be affected as much

  9. My problem with TW is the "Godzilla effect" it is intermittent but I have noticed it on SPEED CHANNEL, TNT, Lifetime and a wide variety of stations.

The lipsynch is off with the dialogue. It can sometimes be a little off and sometimes, WAY OFF (like old Japanese dubbed movie, hence the nikname!)

I can go out to a regular TV in the house with the same show and it is fine. OTHER TIMES, the lipsynch is off on regular cable. I noticed it years ago when Watching DALLAS on SOAPNET.

Why dont' more folks gripe about this problem? Am I the only sober person watchig TV with my glasses on? : - )

I hear this issue across the country. Just google the Godzilla affect and some guy gives a most convoluted, explanation.

But instead of dropping stations AND RAISING FEES, how about getting the download signals or picture and voice TO MATCH.

ALso, why the hell do we need SO MANY SHOPPING CHANNELS and channel TWO is 24/7 infomercials? RIP OFF.

TW sucks but I hear complaints on satellite as well..the Godzilla problems are there as well..and losing the signal during snow and stuff.

Gosh, didn't mean to get started on a rant.

  10. Most people in northern Hamilton and butler/ warren counties can pick up all of the Dayton stations over the air anyway so I'm not sure why it matters if TW carries them.

  11. A lot of people must be fed up with TW and getting a dish. I did a while back.

No more frozen pictures..the lips are in sync with the sound and we have yet to have our first service interuption.

I called yesterday to add on dvr service and the installers are backed up by 3 weeks. I'll bet that means longer lines at the TW offices with people returning their equipment.

  12. I wonder what would happen if a lot of people complained to the State of Ohio Attorney General's consumer complaint line regarding the sub-standard service of TimeWarner? Do you think their service would become technicolor and technically glitch-free almost overnight.

All that would have to happen is for them to dump their digitizing servers! I'm not holding my breath.
