Whose News Did You Use?
So where did you find the best information about the Virginia Tech shootings yesterday? Which TV network? Or website? I want to hear your comments.
I switched between CNN and MSNBC much of last night, and watched a little of Fox News. I got tired of seeing the same cell phone video about 10 times an hour, and hearing a lot of speculation about whether there was one shooter or two. I was appalled by Nancy Grace's lack of grace (anything new?) on CNN Headline, and stayed away from her.
This morning I clicked through CNN, ABC, NBC, Fox and MSNBC and they all seemed to be about the same. FYI, CBS and ABC will do prime-time specials at 10 p.m. tonight.

Post a Comment*Yesterday afternoon/early evening I switched around but stayed often with MSNBC, their interviews with people actually in the building were more compelling-than grabbing anyone who happened to be within 10 miles of the event as was the case with some others. I also found Brian Williams to have the right balance in his comments during NBC News and during the afternoon.
This morning Shepard Smith seemed to be handling the event much better than Meredith V.
I mostly watched CNN, because they had access to the best visuals through their I-Report web site. I could of done without Dr. Phil's commentary during Larry King. Oprah was bumped from Larry's 50th Anniversary show last night. Ouch.
I flipped around to the other news channels, but most were already starting the blame game: gun laws, violence in TV, movies, video games, etc. Yawn.
The Today Show led with Matt and Meredith live from Blacksburg. They too recycled the same cell phone video and photos from Monday.
The two-hour gap in response time between the two shootings was getting more play than anything else.
Of the student interviews i saw (and there were many), the best was from the editor of VaTech's daily paper, The Collegiate Times. I don't remember her name, but she was interviewed on CNN during the 10 pm hour. (Not by Anderson Cooper, he's flying back from Afghanistan). She did such a great job talking how the paper's staff reacted to the misinformation through the morning and how her reporters gathered information during the day and blogged on their web site. I'm sure she just punched her ticket to any media job she wants after graduation.

During the day, I was on WLWT.com and Roanoke.com, and when I went home, MSNBC, with an occasional flip to CNN. A lot of the Internet was hard to reach, especially sites closer to Blacksburg.
Fox News then Fox News and finally Fox News.
DrudgeReport, followed by some Fox News & Nightline.
CNN last night(Larry King was awesome), and ABC-Good Morning America, & CNN this morning before I went to work.

I watched CNN's coverage during the news conference. What I found annoying was the shrill female who sounded like she was accusing the college of not protecting the students. Was that the crack student reporter? Calm down next time.
I watched rosie odonnell for my news and info. She is so right on all the issues. Elizabeth is wrong on every issue
I have watched MSNBC for years, but found myself still smarting over the Imus firing. So, I conducted a boycot of my own and watched Fox News instead. Besides, Keith Olbermann is the last person I want delivering breaking news.
Sorry to see that Keith will be taking air time from Cris Collinsworth on the NBC NFL Sunday night show. Guess I'll find something else to watch then too.
I would have been watching Imus if he had not gotten canned. He is probably the only guy who I could stomach on a story like that. With the rest of them it's like bees rushing to a plant to pollinate.
Imus did a real stupid thing but I will miss his show.
