TV's Best In Show
The Television Critics Assocation has asked members for nominations for TV's best, as the 06-07 season comes to a close May 23.
So I'm soliciting your help on two of the categories. One is similar to the blog I wrote a few weeks ago about evaluating the 06-07 season. Here they are:
--Outstanding New Program: Best new series televised for the first time between May 26, 2006, and May 24, 2007. I'm allowed three nominations -- so which would you pick?
I'm leaning towards Heroes, Ugly Betty and Brothers & Sisters.
Among the others: 30 Rock, Jericho, Friday Night Lights (which has been renewed for fall, according to TVweek.com today), Rules of Engagement, Men In Trees, Shark, Dexter, Dirt, This American Life, My Boys, Sarah Silverman and a bunch of shows that likely will be canceled next week: Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, The Black Donnellys, Andy Barker, Kidnapped, Justice, Raines, The Nine, Daybreak, etc.
--Program of the year: The best program -- series, special, movie, news -- on TV this broadcast year, since May 26 last year.
I'm leaning towards Heroes, House and Ugly Betty, though I'm tempted to nominate Jon Stewart's Daily Show. Or American Idol? Grey's Anatomy? The Office? 30 Rock?
Your recommendations?
--Just saw a post to this blog about "24" and I've decided to add my own third category: What show were you most disappointed in this year? Which show creatively disappointed you the most? Was it 24? Lost? Studio 60? You tell me.

I tend not to watch new series on network tv because I find myself getting frustrated when I enjoyed one they would take it off. If it takes off Then I try and get the dvd of earlier seasons once it gains popularity. But as far as the best program I would have to reccomend The Office, not been a better comedy since Seinfeld IMHO. Lost could be another canidate.
"Lost" is the best show period
Fastest drop of a show: "24"
I have to vote for Jericho for best new show;
I agree that 24 has jumped the shark.
How about "The Colbert Report" as best new show? But that may be too hip for the room.
Ugly Betty and Brothers and Sisters for best new and def. Lost for overall.
I agree with Heroes being in the mix for best new show and best show. For new shows, I haven't seen Ugly Betty or Brothers and Sisters, but you should definitely consider 30 Rock for that category as well. It is a stand out among all the lackluster comedies that have come out in recent years.
Jericho for best new show. The original CSI for best overall.
for best new show shark
best show overall- the office
Best new shows: Sarah Silverman, Heroes, Ugly Betty
Best program: House
Most disappointing: Lost
Best Show - House
Best New Show - Colbert Report!!!
Most Disappointing - 24 - not as edgy this year
Most Overrated - All the shows nominated for the best show award. Come on Hollywood...stop forcing bad crap down our throats!!
BEST NEW SHOW: RAINES. HAS A REAL ACTOR INSTEAD OF ALL THIS REALITY CRAP.
BEST SHOW: WITH OUT A TRACE OR CRIMINAL MINDS. SAME COMMENT AS ABOVE.
30 Rock best new show - hilarious!
Lost and The Office are the best drama and comedy on TV now.
Bad new for Anon 10:08: NBC just announced fall schedule, and Raines isn't on it. It's likely canceled...
Heroes and Jericho are two great new shows... Curious to see how the Heroes spin-off plays out, and how things end up on Jericho..
I was watching the other night and wondering - with a show like Jericho, do they intentionally leave the final episodes with the possibility of everyone dying off, just in case the show isn't picked up? I mean, it'd make for a smooth transition if it wasn't.. Make sense? Then if the show IS picked up again for next season, they leave some glimmer of hope so you'll tune back in.. Just curious.
Best New Program: 30 Rock... finally a good new comedy! Where did comedies go? I'm bored of all these reality shows and slew of so-called dramas.
Best Program: "House"
Most disappointing: "Lost"
Suffering most from bandwagon jumpers: "24". I agree "24" may not be as "fresh" as seasons past, but it is still the most exciting show around.
