So What Did I Miss?

I'm back from a quick Florida trip for a wedding and a brief family reunion. I'll be honest, I didn't watch much TV except for part of "America's Got Talent." This is the No. 1 show on TV? Why? What makes it so popular? I don't think the editing, writing or hosting is as good as "American Idol," so why are you watching?
What have I missed in the past week?

John-

I am addicted to Traveler on ABC. Only 3 episodes left and I am sure it will be cancelled (it's a damn shame) but they promise the story will be wrapped up in the final three episodes...we'll see.

Isn't "AGT" basically a slightly re-formatted version of "The Gong Show"? Who'd have thought that Chuck Barris was so prescient?

Not much, glad you're back.
From the neighborhood.

Welcome back, John.
I've never been a fan of the reality shows until I came across "Man Versus Wild" on Discovery. Every guy's fantasy - living off the land. Great show.

you missed Time Warner finding ways to lose customers by playing games with respect to adding the Big Ten Network.

hey kiese wondering when you were voting for the TCA's and if you could share your ballot with us.

Channel 9 still has "the most accurate weather forecast". Big whoop....

Personally, I can't wait for the return of Big Brother on CBS. Best reality show EVER.

Glad to have Rescue Me and The Closer back - two of the best shows on TV. Can't wait to see what the gang on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia comes up with this year...

Guess today was Valarie Abatie's last day on Fox19's morning show... :(

See the article in the Business Courier about May sweeps demos? FOX19 wins every time period they produce news (M-F 4:30am - 9am and 10pm) in A18-39 & A25-54. They beat EVERYONE. So much for the uniformed who commented a few posts back about their small audience in morning. How about the BIGGEST audience of the most important demos.

kiese, glad to see you're back! and i notice you're back to your old form, letting people take whatever kind of nasty shot they want at people who are just trying to earn a living.

you are truly a bastion of the first amendment. wait, "bastion" isn't really the word i meant... let me think for a minute.. it'll come to me... it sounds kind of the same.

The only shows I've watched are "Rescue Me" and "The Closer." Both awesome!

well lets see John,
700 is still trash, KRC is still awful, Dusty Rhoades is still playing that tired old music, 1360 is nothing but syndicated crap, and 1530 is gone from bad to worse. On the TV side, 9 is struggling, 12 still has that 11 year old Anna doing the morning news , 5 still has Lisa drinking way too much coffee and is as giddy as ever, and 19 is as bad as when you left town. I think that about covers it!!

Prior post about "uniformed" must have been written by Valerie Abatie.

Bill Tonis is leaving WLW? Where did you hear that? He has been there a long time. Is it by his own doing or yet another in a line of brilliant personnel moves by the powers that be at the radio sweat shop called Clear Channel.

Speaking of former personnel, Furman was on vacation last week and Fish filled in except for Friday when Greg Wadell was on. I think Wadell used to work for Clear Channel as well. If the 2 Angry Guys go to Super Talk, they will have cornered the market on former CC employees.

Where is Valerie Abati going?

at 6/24/2007 12:59 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

John you ought to have a blog on here on who the viewers think is the best weather person is in the tristate area. For me being accurate as well as ones personality are big issues, not weather ones station is rated best by the National Weather Serivce.

at 6/24/2007 8:28 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I say the one with the most experience here in Cincy is Tim Hedrick. The best looking is Valerie Abati. Best Personality Paul Horton. Best personal song, Derrick Beasley.

at 6/24/2007 8:57 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

The National Weather Service doesn't rate stations. But there's a service out there that'll say you're the most accurate if you pay them to say it.

Last year "America's Got Talent" was so bad that even host Regis Philbin quit. Now we have Jerry Springer hosting. This show is just another reason why Iran wants us dead.

Why the numerous swipes at Anna Townsend? Who cares if she looks young. She does a better job than at least half the on-air people in town. Why not criticize those who dye their hair to look young (Braun, Johanssen, etc.)

at 6/25/2007 2:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

what about cammy d. Since she left mornings the ratings have risen. The slot she is now is losing viewers left and right.

Yea- News 5 just won 13 Emmy Awards - the most in Cincinnati. Nice job by the #1 bashed station in town. Perhaps they don't suck as much as you all think they do.

Kristen Cornett appears to have left WeatherPlus in March, 2007.

Her Wikipedia page, and I still don't know why she has one, does not say where she is presently, nor does a google search provide any clues.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristen_Cornett

I find it odd that you would leave or be out of a national job after one year. Contracts ususally run two or more years.

Rude! I love every thing about Fox 19, including the weather team. How low do you have to stoop people?

yeah dave wagner won 4 emmys. Richard Dyer never should have split up the great team of wagner and ali.

at 6/26/2007 7:10 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

The post above touched on it - 5 won a slew of those EMMYs solely on Dave Wagner's prostitute story - several for Dave, one for the producer and a couple for Chris Knight the photag. This is nothing new, since Wagner has continued to produce solid stories and winning EMMYs for the past few years despite being demoted. If the station had ANY sense it would return him to the primary anchor position and rebuild the news team around him. If it weren't for Wagner and the high production promos, 5 would be empty handed. How many EMMYs did Sandra, Sheeree and Derrick win? Nada.

Want to hear something funny? Mary McConnel doing traffic when she says there is a baaaaaaaaackup on I-75. Get that northern midwest accent out of here. Dont you know this is Mayberry?

What is the MRI report for which carol williams won an emmy over at 9? I always got the impression others did the healthy living stuff and she just tracks it.

Channel 5's promo dept. won most of the emmys, including one for burning down the house, which was set on fire with straw and gasoline to see how fast it would burn... Misleading????
I wonder how fast it really would have burned without the help? But it was a ratings month.

Kristen Cornett got fired from NBC. She wanted vacation, they said no, and she took it anyway. She's had intreviews around the area recently.
