Blackwell-Strickland TV Debate Tonight

Yeah, some knucklehead probably will call WCPO-TV (Ch. 9) tonight and complain that "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" aren't on. But they’re being pre-empted for good reason. Ch. 9 blows out the popular game shows 7-8 p.m. today to broadcast the Ohio gubernatorial debate between Republican Ken Blackwell and Democrat Ted Strickland from the University of Cincinnati. Channel 9 anchor Clyde Gray anchors the telecast, which is being made available statewide. (WCET, WVXU-FM and WMUB-FM also will broadcast.)
It also will be streamed at www.wcpo.com, and archived there so you can watch on demand, or listen on demand as a podcast. Or you can watch on Time Warner Channel 1111, the local on demand channel.

You can also catch Tom McKee’s netcasts about local political races at http://wcpo.com/specials/2006/elections/
I don’t know what it costs to blow off "Wheel" and "Jeopardy!" advertising – but it must be significant. And Ch. 9 will do it twice more, when Clyde Gray hosts a Kentucky 4th Congressional District candidates debate (Geoff Davis-Ken Lucas) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, and an Ohio 1st District Congressional District debate (Steve Chabot-John Cranley) at 7 p.m. Oct. 23. If every TV station had the same commitment to public affairs election issues, how much more informed would the electorate be?
BTW, "Wheel" and "Jeopardy!" will air late tonight/early Thursay 1:30-2:30 a.m.

WNKU at Tall Stacks
For the sounds of Tall Stacks, tune in www.WNKU.org or WNKU-FM (89.7). John Patrick (aka Steamboat Johnny) will broadcast from the station’s tent noon-3 p.m. today through Friday. The station also will broadcast live tonight’s performances by Sonny Landreth (5:45 p.m.), Chris Smither (7:25 p.m.) and Betty LaVette (9:05 p.m.), after a special “History of Tall Stacks” (5 p.m.).
Brian O’Donnell, (aka Cap’n O’D) will be live from Tall Stacks 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
You also can download podcasts of Tall Stacks artists at www.tallstacks.com.

"Dancing" with the Enquirer
Did you see the Enquirer’s 1982 photo of Jerry Springer dancing with his daughter on "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday? When producers saw the picture with our Springer story Tuesday, they called and asked permission to use it – and edited it into the show hours before the live telecast. Jerry was 7th of 8 last night, but the emphasis on him learning to dance for his daughter’s wedding – and hugging Katie after his dance – probably will keep him on the show another week. We’ll find out tonight (8-9 p.m., Ch 9) on the results show, with Nick Lachey as the headliner.
I'm guessing that one of two singers -- Sara Evans or Willa Ford -- goes home tonight. What do you think?

Sara Evans is not a great dancer, but who (pant, pant, huff, huff, drool, drool) cares.

She has to be the hottest mother of three on the planet...

Jees, Kiese - you post the dissertation on an informed public - but these posters only seem to be interested in voting on "Dancing with the Star" - and I fear there are thousands more like them out there.

Anon12:53am...

... and you wonder how Bush and the Repubs stay in power?

Anon 12:53 am...Just because we vote on a tv show doesn't mean we don't vote for elections. I have voted in every election during the past 8 years that I've been eligible. I even voted when the only thing to vote for at the primary was county dog catcher.

Maybe more people would vote if there were better candidates for president. When I voted for president in 2004, it was to vote for the lesser of two evils. That's sad.

Also, all of these damn political ads on tv make me want to not vote. I have yet to hear what qualities the candidates acutally have. It's all attacking each other but never saying what the person has done. Enough already.

Also, about the debate last night, I could care less about an Ohio debate. I live in Kentucky so yes, I would rather watch Dancing with the Stars. Oh and FYI, you could watch the debate if interested then watch DWTS afterwards.

To 12:53 and others, why do you assume that those of us who rather look at Sara Evans are responsible for Bush and Co. (Just because her hubby is a Republica???) I'm a democrat, it will take me five minutes to vote againt Blackwell, Dewine, Schmidt and the rest.

You forgot the basic tenet of sex and politics--Dem males like girls..Repub males like boys...geez

I feel compelled to come forward as Anon 12:53. Reading my post, I can see where offense was taken, but none was intended.

My point was that Kiese seemed to set up this certain post, in my opinion, hoping to get responses on the debate -- but DWTS was the only thing people were talking about.

I was not trying to say viewers of DTWS who posted were subhuman or anything to that effect -- was only trying to poke a joke at the fact no one was talking about the debate.

And for you Kentucky folk (myself being one) you SHOULD care who the Ohio governor is - because it could very well affect who your next president is! Its time to care about the country again! Learn about your candidates - and vote this november -- and if you don't know anything about the candidates - stay away from the polls, please.

Anon 12:54... So you are not voting for your Dem candidates because of their platform and plan for America but you are voting for them to vote against repubs...

And people are wondering why the Dems have no platform other than be against and try to defeat the Repubs. Kinda shallow in my estimation.

I will admit we have some fairly inept local Repubs in Washington but see nothing that Dems propose (when you can finally talk issues with them after the Bush bashing stops) that I can stand behind. They don't have my values any more. They are not the democratic party of yesterday. Left wing extremists has hijacked that party and they are trying to drive socialism down our throats.

Where did 12:54 say s/he was voting Dem simply because s/he is a Dem??

I love how the GOP blames "liberal extremists" for the nation's problems, when the GOP's been in control of congress for 12 years.

Perhaps it's the radical reactionary right that's gotten the USA into one big mess??? Iraq, Afghanistan, Katrina, none of these things have been handled properly, and the Dems don't have the votes (currently) to affect any possible change that would put the USA back on a better path.

Rest assured, there is a plan to fix things.

Where's the Dems plan? I haven't seen one plan in 12 years other than GOP being wrong. You say they don't have the votes... if they had the votes they still wouldn't have a plan to vote on.

It still comes down to the fact Dems do not have my values anymore. Although the GOP has not been stellar, I can't vote for a man or woman that goes against my core values and is out of touch with middle Americans. And todays Dem party is nothing I can honestly say represents me.

So vote for a party that will send American's sons and daughters to their deaths in Iraq for no good reason.

Good for you.
