More Competition for Andy Furman

On my drive home the other night, I was surprised to hear Lance McAlister on WCKY-AM (Homer 1530 sports talk) 6-7 p.m. Last night Greg Doyle for CBS Sportsline was on at 6 p.m. What's up?

Starting this week, Clear Channel is repeating the first hour of Lance's 3-6 p.m. show at 6-7 p.m. In the past, 1530 went to Fox Sports at 6 p.m., to protect the local "Sports Talk" franchise on sister WLW-AM 6-9 p.m. But the landscape changed in January, when fired WLW-AM talk host Andy Furman took his act to WFTK-FM, Supertalk96.5.

Clear Channel's Dave Armbruster, who supervises programming on 1530, says adding the rerun at 6 p.m. was a logical extension for Lance, the station's most popular show. (He also says Doyle was subbing for a sick Lance yesterday.) "A lot of people drive home later and later. It makes sense to do it. There's nothing really diabolical here. Lance is our anchor."

Furman definitely believes the move was made to slice into his audience. "They now have two stations to attack me," he says.

So who do you listen to on the way home? Paul Daugherty has been hosting "SportsTalk" for a couple of weeks now... Do you listen to Doc, Furman, Lance or Wayne "Box" Miller on the Buzz for sports on the way home? Or all of the above?

Lance, then a little bit of Lance. Haven't turned Furman on at his new gig at all. He got real old at 700 and I stopped listening when he stopped talking about "sports". Doc is OK and will listen if after 7 pm or so.

Andy Furman on the way home. Great guests and interviews.

Furman and Lance, I switch back and forth. Doc will put you to sleep.

I really don't like Daugherty on 700. The premiere sports show on the city's biggest station deserves someone who isn't just now learning to speak on the radio. I go with Lance for my sports talk.

I listen to the best dj combo in cincy. Laura Powell and Brian Douglas.

I wasn't a Furman fan when he was on 700. I found the yelling with Cunningham to be really annoying. I like the new show on 96.5. I listen to Mancow on the way to work, & Andy for the trip home. 96.5 is really growing on me.

Doc is getting better, but Furman is a staple.

When, if ever will 96.5 deliver more local talk?

Like them all, but Andy gets the nod....

Most times it's NPR, especially if it's 6:30 p.m. and Marketplace is on. Fantastic program. Otherwise it's Daugherty. It's obvious he hasn't been doing this for long, but he's actually doing better than I thought he would. It's nice to hear a host politely say he disagrees with what a caller says instead of the usual trash talking and name calling most sports hosts do when they disagree with a caller.

Furman, Doc, Lance. Who cares. Radio in this town sucks. Furman the carnival barker. What a joke. 96.5 and their little syndicated programming is a joke. Give this town some real local live talk/news.

With Doc, now we have two hosts that don't talk (maybe because they don't know anything) about sports.

Furman is a clown, but he does have connections that result in top notch interviews, not just local, but on a national scope.

Lance is more concerned about his childhood and the first time he saw a naked girl than sports. (not to be confused with stats)

Furman all the way. Lance is too geekey, has too many gimics and Doc is like listening to a librarian speak. He can't take anyone to task because he needs them for his paper job.

Andy Furman Super Sports on Super Talk FM 96.5 - every day.

Andy said on his show that ratings for the 1st quarter are due out next Thursday I beleive. It will be interesting to see where they stand.

Keise: Have you seen the new WLW billboards yet? Could they possibly be more racist, or more strerotypically offensive toward the Hispanic community?

Shall we learn the ethnic background of Darryl Parks -- or the Mays family -- and post a similarly unflattering slur in response? How would they like it?

Doc is doing OK and is going to get better....I mostly listen to him. Furman is annoying---fights for recognition and is primarily interested in himself. I rarely turn him on.

What was all the Marty bashing about on Doc's show Thursday night. Marty B. is great and tells it like it is. He does not kiss up to any of the players and tells it like it is. That is the way it should be. I applaud the Reds organization for letting him broadcast in that manner.

700 keeps getting more and more "in your face". When Darryl Parks (not his real name) was at 610 WTVN in Columbus, he was so soft spoken. But now since he is with "The Big Smash Mouth One" he yells into the micophone. Oh, and who could forget the Randy Furman gig with Scott Sloan trying to act funny!!!! Mayberry media, its the best.

The Marty bashing. No way. He is the best. But then again remeber that his ego would not fit in a 9 by 12 room and most in this market are afraid to confront him about anything.
