Where The Engagement News Comes First
Did you see Ch 5 traffic reporter Pete Scalia surprise his girlfriend live on TV today? Scalia invited Amy Storer in to talk about her Cincy Chic online magazine, and moving back here from Philadelphia, shortly after 6 a.m. today.... Then dropped down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She was totally surprised and overwhemled, to say the least. She said yes, and then got off the best line: "Where the engagement news comes first, News 5."
You can see it on You Tube:

I found it a good story. It is nice to see something on the news that is fun. Good luck to the couple.
Congrats Amy & Pete!!
He must have been scared that she was going to say no, so he put her on the spot.
Who?
Isn't it funny how this time of year (sweeps) love just happens to be in the air at TV stations across the country?
I thought it was great. Pete seems like such a nice guy. Congrats to them both!
Honestly, I think the absolutely lamest and most pathetic thing is when some dude feels the need for a public, on camera proposal.
If I were proposed to publicly, I would kick him in the ***** and break it all off.
How insulting...
Anon 5/13 12:29, don't worry, my guess is no one would propose to you in the first place.
This type of stuff has no place on television news. Only at Channel 5 would this be acceptable.
Congrats.... Pete & Amy.... I think it was really neat, plus the whole team was genuinely into it.... Best morning team in Cincinnati.... They deserve more credit then they get.... You guys are the best!
This is corny. The New 5 morning show. Whew, what a job to listen to them in the morning. Lisa and Todd talk loud and are too giddy. A little less coffee might help. As for traffic - all the stations give the traffice like everyone on the road has a TV tuned to them on the dashboard of their car. Giving traffic on TV is a total waste. I cant believe someone is on the edge of their seat in the morning waiting for these people to give them a report before they depart. The only good thing, is that Denise Johnson is VERY HOT!! and easy to look at!!!
Denis Johnson = HOT?!?! Wow. A lot of these blog postings suddenly make a LOT more sense to me now.
The morning team at 5 are the best in my opinion. Unlike some of the others, they come off as real people, yet very professional. While I am getting ready to face the day, I keep an ear to the show and when traffic comes on I check it out to make sure I don't have problems getting to work. Great work, keep it up.
DYER DISASTER...
Lookat Me... Lookat Me... Lookat Me... I'm on TEEE VEEE...
What a cornball small market thing to do...
What kind of dude takes a private moment between himself and his life partner and turns it into a gimmik.... and what kind of boss lets him do it?
God bless you both and best of luck if thats what you are into. This guy has got to be one of those tv people who will wear sunglasses into the kroger. (I've got to protect myself from getting crows feet dude, I'm on-air.)
I know Peety and Bobbie are just the traffic guys, and it appears that we like happy zanny traffic guys laughing about that 3 car pile up on 275 now a days,-- but come on dude.... Scalia has really proven once and for all, that a really great hard news market can now be served by anyone.
But what can you really expect if you hire someone through a reality show audition.
What if she would have said no? Can you imagine the look on his face the next time he called for that artimis shot--- Now that would get you ratings if she dumped him in the middle of the report.
I thought it was adorable!
I'm on television myself Amy (I'm a meteorologist), don't let people's aimless negative comments deter you!
Congratulations.
No, seriously, proposals done in public, on some kind of camera, are an insulting "LOOK AT ME" gesture, perpetrated by the saddest, most pitiful members of our society. A woman who marries a man who takes this kind of private, intimate, personal moment to a LOOK AT ME level, deserves exactly what she gets.
Good luck, Amy, with your lifetime pathetic showboat.
Hey, 10:08 No-Lifer:
Pete Scalia is a class act. I've known him a long time, long before he was ever on "TV." Given the things he's done in his life (more than you'll EVER do), yeah, you think he would be the type to wear the shades in Kroger - but he isn't. He's about as true blue as they come. You, however, are just a dick.
GET OVER IT. Best of luck to both of them. The rest of you can crawl back into your little holes and go away.
Nice. Your moms would be so proud. "saddest, most pitiful members of our society.." Hmm.. No, that'd be YOU.
Here's a novel idea to all of you big talkers.. I dare any one of you to show up over at channel 5's studios, ask for Pete himself, and try saying ANY of this garbage to his face. Oh, and be sure to let us know how THAT works out for you. I'd put money on NONE of you sniveling, owrthless gobs of ooze having the balls to do it.
You should be ashamed of yourselves. Honestly. Ashamed. Personally, I wish them both a lifetime of happiness - and thanks for making last Friday morning a great one!
This type of thing seperates the News 5 Morning Team from the others in Cincinnati. Todd, Lisa & Pete really project themselves as very sincere people. The on air proposal proves it. It really is something I would expect to see on The Today Show or Good Morning America. Classy!!!Best of luck to Pete & Amy.
I wish I could have done it this way. Maybe I'd still be married.
He chose a very public way to propose, but shouldn't be subjected to scrutiny in a public forum? Sorry, can't have it both ways.
I agree this is a small-market stunt. The fact that it just happened to be during a ratings period is even worse.
Ever see anything like this at 12 or 9? Didn't think so.
Funny that its considered a small market stunt when I've seen the same thing done in Phoenix.
I'm trying to figure out who these people are that are so high and mighty in Cincinnati of all places, the laughing stock of the country, to cast judgement on these two people.
Personally what better way to show your love for someone then to tell the whole world how you feel about them. To the female that would rather have it private...are you so ashamed of your relationships that you'd feel better hiding it?
Really pathetic to see some of the negative responses on here. Ratings? Why don't you make that comment if you actually KNOW the people. I doubt the "Ratings Sweeps" regard 6am as their niche area to grab. You guys need to save the comments and put them back in your rectum where they came from.
I love how some of the previous posters keep saying 'they would never do this on the other channels'. Was anyone actually WATCHING the other morning shows? One of the reporters/anchors actually went into the hospital, on-air, to give birth to her child. What, they wouldn't allow cameras in the delivery room? You really consider that less 'classy'? Something tells me these posters have no idea what the word actually means...
To each their own, and congrats.
