It's Official: Valerie Abati to Pittsburgh

By the end of summer, Ch 19 meteorologist Valerie Abati will move to Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV for the job she didn't get at Fox 19: morning news forecaster.

Here's the e-mail she sent me: "It's official now. I will be heading to Pittsburgh to work for KDKA. It's a CBS O&O (owned and operated) station, and I will be working the morning/noon shift. The exact date has not be set, but it will be some time at the end of summer."

Abati was hired in September 2004 by Fox 19 to do weekends. She had been doing mornings since Paul Horton was promoted to chief meteorologist in January (after Rich Apuzzo was fired). Fox 19 last month hired Christie Dutton from Lexington to do mornings.

Kiese---
Maybe you could ask 19 if they are thinking about hiring Pat Barry for weekends?

Hi Kiese,
different topic, but do you know when CHannel 9 is going to have their new 2 anchor/reports? And when is Brian Patrick's last day at Channel 9?
Thanks...

Or maybe you could ask Valerie if she left because Cincinnati wasn't "hip" enough?

I can't believe that they hired her for mornings.

Valerie shouldn't be too upset (and I don't think she is) about leaving Fox 19. If we didn't have channel 5, they would be the worst game in town.

whats going on with the fox 19 hating. They are the 2nd most watched news team behind 12. Wcpo has fallen.

It's a sad sad day in this town. Ch. 19 made a mistake

Good for Val. While she's very pretty and seems nice, her TV presence still needs some work. I have no doubt if 19 promoted her to mornings she would've improved over time. But she's much better off going where she's going and I'm sure the Pittsburgh station saw this potential...and perhaps even the chance to save some money in the short term.

Good for her, hope she does well. Personally, I liked her, but fox19 has made some puzzling decisions before.

I'm intrigued by the job you said she is taking in Pittsburgh and didn't get in Cincinnati -- "morning news forecaster." Presumably this is where someone describes what news will potentially occur that day, and then perhaps her work is reviewed on the late evening news. Certainly this would constitute the next frontier of "TV news."

I watched Valerie Abati in the mornings for several weeks on 19 and thought she did really well, so I dont understand about her not getting the job. I thought she already had it. And speaking of attractive weather gals, what happened to Marina Jurica of channel 5?

Fox 19 management must be the worst group on the planet and a horrible place to work. They keep losing/firing good talent and they also hire some of the worst, example Paul Horton. Valerie is the sexiest woman Cincinnati TV and she should have been given the Chief position, not that "Thing" that has it now. Valerie, I for one will miss you dearly. NO PAT BARRY.... The General Manager at FOX 19 needs to lose his job, and yesterday.

She's not leaving Cincy until September. Then she heads to KDKA.

I know this is old news but Valerie Abati was too boring for morning news. I for one am glad she is gone. Her sense of fashion was way off. At least the new gals choice of suits are professional even though I think she secretly hates Rob and Sheila. I say good riddens Val, bore Pittsburgh !!!

Valerie's gone? I hate that. She was the only reason I watched Fox 19 news. They made a major mistake letting her go

Anyone who thinks Valerie Abati was too boring for the morning news must of got up in the afternoon she was about the only one who wasn't boring 19 news you've lost my vote she will be missed.

to whom it may concern. VAL ABATI IS THE HOTTEST WEATHER WOMAN IN THE COUNTRY. AND ITS HARD TO BELIEVE SHE WASN'T MARRIED! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW JOB. BUT HONESTLY PITTSBURG IS A AWFUL CITY.WISH ANOTHER STATION WOULD HIRE HER. THAT CINDY LADY ON CH.9 NEEDS TO GO.

Christie Dutton is nowhere near as fun to look at as Valerie Abati. I'd just about rather see Pat Verry than Dutton

Saw Valerie when I use to visit Cincy and thought she was great. Now I can watch her in Pittsburgh where I now live.
Thanks channel 19!
