O.T. tribute Sunday
It’s been kind of eerie hearing Oscar Treadwell’s voice hosting jazz 9-11 p.m. Sundays on WVXU-FM in recent weeks, long after his death April 1. But O.T. always worked ahead of his deadlines, and WVXU had four un-aired shows on the shelf when he died, the last of which aired April 23. On Sunday, the station finally pays tribute to the local jazz icon with “A Tribute To Oscar Treadwell” 7-9 p.m., followed by a rerun of a September show at 9.
Host and producer Lee Hay has assembled an impressive lineup to salute O.T. – including musicians Phil DeGreg, Bob Nave, Steve Schmidt, Lynn Seaton, Ron Esposito, Katie Laur and Jim Anderson among the 25 to be heard.
O.T.’s voice will remain on WVXU-FM for weeks and months to come. The 34 shows aired since his return to the airwaves last August will be repeated while WVXU works on remastering Treadwell’s program archives at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. The station also is talking about an O.T. tribute concert later this year.
X-Star Network Shrinks
As expected, Cincinnati Public Radio has sold off the three Michigan stations from the seven-station X-Star Radio Network acquired from Xavier University last August. That leaves four stations – WVXU, and three stations repeating WVXU programming in West Union, Chillicothe and Richmond, Ind. The three Michigan stations sold for a total of $991,000.
