Rich Apuzzo Out At Fox 19

Look for an immediate change in the weather at Fox 19: Rich Apuzzo was fired today.
Apuzzo says he was told this morning by WXIX-TV managers that he was being terminated immediately. He had been off the air for a week, while management was "looking into something."
He would not elaborate, but says the termination was not a complete surprise. GM John Long would not comment on the personnel matter.
Apuzzo says his departure "is something I'll need to dispute in some way." Again, he would not elaborate.
Apuzzo, 44, was one of the two original members of the Fox 19 anchor team which debuted in October 1993. (Jack Atherton is the sole survivor.) He was second in tenure (to Ch. 12's Tim Hedrick) of all the main TV weather forecasters here.
Paul Horton did the Sunday night weather instead of Apuzzo.
On Monday, Apuzzo says he called 5, 9 and 12 to see if they were interested in him. He wants to stay in town, and says he would be willing to do weekend, while ramping up his weather consulting business and his Web site, www.apuzzoweather.com
"Am I despondent or upset? No. I've been fired once before, and I look at these things as opportunities," he says.
"I don't have to be a chief meterologist. I could do weekends. I want to stay in town. I don't plan on leaving."
So what do you think about that? Here's a chance to buzz about a different station's weather personalities for a change...

I've seen the comment section full of dirt on channel 5, so somebody dig some up on Channel 19! What's the scoop?

never saw that one coming i guess that explains horton doing the weather on sunday

19 is not wasting any time...Rich has already been pulled from their website. Too bad about Rich. Any chance of HIM moving into Jim O'Brien's spot? Or vice versa? I can recall two former Channel 5 weather anchors moving over to Fox 19 - Pat Barry and Dave Fraser.

put horton to chief abati am and get a new weekend /sub

Wow! If I thought any local weather anchor was to be shown the door today I would have put my money on Steve Horstmeyer. Steve was discussing his current schedule, the atmosphere around the evening newscast, and the digital signal into an open mike following his 8:00am forecast. Far more interesting than what the CBS anchors had to say at the same time!!!

I for one was never a big fan of Appuzzo. I think there were times when he caused a bit of a panic(Pat Barry did the same thing.

at 10/09/2006 8:40 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

all the weather er panic people do the same thing

at 10/09/2006 8:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope they as in 19 dont hire O'Brien

Paul Horton = chief meteorologist? Hmmm. How quickly we forget. People talk (and have RANTED on this blog) about wanting someone they can TRUST during severe weather. Is that someone a guy who takes out a few parked cars while driving home drunk? Maybe he can let us know the forecast before his next big house party on Q102. Give me an experienced chief - not a partying frat boy. (Then again - who DOESN'T fit that mold at 19?)

I'd LOVE to hear the story behind Richie getting the ax.

Rich has had some internal issues over the years with other employees...maybe he messed with the wrong person this time.

at 10/09/2006 9:25 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

This couldn't have happened to a "nicer" guy. He totally had this one coming to him...for years!

Sad to see someone so self-destruct as Apuzzo has.

at 10/09/2006 9:56 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

i dont care who is chief or whatever i just want a fairly accurate forecast and there was a comment about someone not watching abati cause she messed up on the 12/2004 storm so did a few others so analize that

at 10/10/2006 7:45 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

It should have happened ten years ago. Speaking of Horstmeyer, he was not on the news this morning. Maybe he is the next to go.

at 10/10/2006 7:55 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

If 5 picked him up, it would be for morning show, not chief. They already know who the next chief is.

at 10/10/2006 8:57 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Steve had this vacation planned before that mic incident.

at 10/10/2006 10:20 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't know. Horton reminds me of Herman Munster's offspring.

I'd rather have Abati on at night. More personality (or as we say in the house "Look, Drunk Girl's on).

If now is the time, Steve should go to XIX but...life is good and stable. :)

What happened to Jim O'Brien?

at 10/10/2006 12:27 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

If we could get Jim Fox to study and get a degree from Mississippi State's TV weather school...he'd be perfect for 19!

at 10/10/2006 12:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

hell don't think you even need one of those to work at 19

at 10/10/2006 12:59 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I usually watch 19's 10PM news and have found Rich A. to be competent... Tricia Macke is very good. Horton would do a good job in that slot and Abati who is very attractive, tries hard
but she is a whiner with what comes off as a phony smile.

at 10/10/2006 1:14 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Look for Steve Norris to move into a larger role somewhere...either at 5 or 19.

As for Tricia Macke, I do watch the 10 O'Clock News but last night was almost enough to make me stop...the "breaking news" of the Continental Airlines plane that left CVG and was diverted to Cleveland was en route, according to Tricia not once, but TWICE, to Newark, Ohio. For someone who grew up around here to not know that Newark, Ohio barely has an interstate off-ramp much less an airport is inexcusable. Even if the prompter only said "Newark", what possible brain synapse would lead you to assume it must mean Ohio?????

at 10/10/2006 1:20 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

she's blonde. aren't they entitled to mess up here and there? the blonde hair and her hot bright pink lipstick may have jammed the syanpses in her brain. i believe that newark, OH is about 5-10 miles or so outside of youngstown, OH

at 10/10/2006 2:11 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually, Newark, Ohio, is on Lake Erie, east of Toledo.

at 10/10/2006 2:20 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

i'm sorry...i was thinking of Niles, OH which is outside of Youngstown. thanks for the clarification. maybe someone should tell ms. macke too!

at 10/10/2006 2:22 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually, Newark is 33 miles east of Columbus.

at 10/10/2006 2:29 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is JIM O gone from WLWT now? He will be missed alot!!! I think we will see Rich on WLWT. Maybe Jim will go to FOX19.....

at 10/10/2006 3:10 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

people please remember that steve norris was let go from 19 i dont really see him going back there, also i dont really think he will go back to 5 either because he was free lancing when they were short handed and they never signed him to a contract

How/Why do you people know so much about all the weather people?

at 10/10/2006 3:22 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow...guess I should have cut Tricia some slack after seeing the whiz-bang geography students posting here. Newark is, indeed, 30 or so miles east of Columbus.

at 10/10/2006 3:23 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

It could be worse... remember Eric Warren. On a lighter note, two folks that worked locally...haven't seen them in years. Valerie Lampe-Douglas and Jan Davies(we were all together at Miami U, and no I won't tell you when. Last I heard Jan was in Chicago.

at 10/10/2006 3:38 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

thats right eric i'll have my house torched warren dont forget bob alan fron 9

How can so many recollections about weather people go on without a mention of Ira Joe Fisher?

at 10/10/2006 4:21 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

We can only hope that Raleigh is next. He reminds me of a used car salesman.

at 10/10/2006 4:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I seem to remember that some years back, if you left one station you had to stay off air for 6 months or a year no matter who hired you... I wonder if any of the stations will even touch Appuzzo, considering some of the speculation thats been here And when Ira Joe went to NYC (no scandal there) his replacement was a real ditz named Mitzi Oxford. she didnt last long at all.

at 10/10/2006 5:09 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Aren't Janet Davies and Steve Deshler still in Chicago?

at 10/10/2006 6:25 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

if there is a non compete clause in the contract then he is off for whatever time period it states but if he was fired it may not apply i mean sussi went to 5 from 19 and was still on the air girone went fron 5 to 12 and no air time missed

at 10/10/2006 6:34 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

the non compete clause might not even apply if it wasnt in the contract i mean sussi, girone, barr and moening went to different stations here in cincinnati and no airtime missed it all depends if it was put in the contract

at 10/10/2006 6:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Around our house we have names for all of the different broadcasters -

Abati -- 'Larry'

Apuzzo -- Aputzo (especially during the 'sky is falling' thunderstorm forecasts)

Atherton - can't tell you, but change the 'TH'

Steve Raleigh -- 'The Crimson Chin' Hey, he keeps the city of Chincinnati safe! (if you have kids under 10 you know who I mean)

I can't help but think that there is some dirt about this Apuzzo thing. Sounds like something that 19 knew may be a problem when they hired him since there was a 'clause' in the contract that allowed them to let him go. It's too bad, since he seemed like a good guy, but the fire in his eyes when deadly weather was on the way was a bit creepy.

at 10/10/2006 7:08 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

oh yeah, there's some serious dirt at 19. just wait until it comes out. and it will.

at 10/10/2006 7:16 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What were the internal issues with Rich A???? Dish dish Dish!

at 10/10/2006 7:18 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

every contract is different, however, most non-competes will hold up in court even if a person is fired "WITH cause".

now if a station decides to fire someone "withOUT cause" (or the employee could successfully argue that is the case), they would have serious difficulty making the noncompete stand up in court.

my suspicion is there is big-time "cause" (and well documented) in the case of apuzzo and fox19 would most certainly challenge it and win.

besides, what station in town (or anywhere for that matter) would want to take on the liability that a problem employee would subject them to?

at 10/10/2006 7:21 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

steve raleighs chin scares me

at 10/10/2006 7:26 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can't wait to hear the real dirt from 19. And, here we are blogging the name of every person since Tony Sands who has stepped in front of the big "green" screen to deliver a weather forecast.

Remember the big deal when you had to show your seal from the American Meteorolical Society? Pat Barry didn't have one and Channel 5 got raked over pretty good because of that.

Steve Raliegh would make a great used car salesman. He could stash the hidden price add-ons in his chin.

Valerie Lampe-Douglas probably still lives in Saylor Park. She did not move to Washington with Steve Douglas, where he was killed in an ultralite crash many years ago.

at 10/10/2006 7:29 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, common sense tells you that Richie Boy will lie low, very low for a while.

He knows if he makes too much of a big deal about this, especially from a legal standpoint, all the details of each alleged indiscretion (and there are allegedly many!) will come out in court and thus become very public.

Right now, his blow-hard comments about seeking legal advice and trying to find jobs at other stations in town is to try and save what face he can.

He's embarrassed...and, quite frankly, who wouldn't be in his situation?

at 10/10/2006 7:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

wasnt there a person named Tom Atkins at channel 5 long ago and then came back and was a weekend anchor or something like that?

at 10/10/2006 7:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

i agree with earlier poster, aint no station in its right mind dumb enough to hire tainted goods.

a single misstep and station would face serious liability issues since they knowingly hired someone with such a background.

5, 9 or 12? aint happenin'.

No one on here has said what RICH DID TO GET FIRED!!!! I know what you all are thinking. If you go the forum and read the post by his WIFE it seems things are fine between them. So if it was sexual harrassment in which I think many of you are thinking. Then why does his wife feel so content?

READ
All your emails and positive thoughts are sooo appreciated. Rich has received so many emails we have lost count and all those I received I made sure they were shared. Cinncinati is a town that cares about their own, and I can't imagine living anywhere else. Today, as we shopped a Kroger I watched as a little boy recognized Rich and his father was so proud to shake my husband's hand, it was so hard to hold back the tears. I just can't begin to thank all of you. We have shared so many weather kudos with you and I don't want that to stop. If you see us around town, don't hesitate to say hi, talk about the weather, or just give us a hug. We will continue to talk weather with those who want to. Skyeye Weather will just have to be your new home for ApuzzoWeather. I am working on a few things, but asap, Rich's forecast will be able to be heard, so keep checking this forum for updates. It is so absolutely wonderful to see how much my husband is appreciated in this community. If you are a business owner and would like to advertise on my site or sponsor our educational tour please don't hesitate to email me. Thank you all!!! Knowing we are in your thoughts and prayers means the world to us.

Personally Rich Apuzzo should have been fired a couple of years ago. I mean he's been around since 1993, and it is time for him to go anway,, same with Jack.. Jack and Rich are getting old.. When you get old, people need to place or you loose your viewers. Anyhow, Personally Rich Apuzzo and Jack Atherton are both nice fellas, I had a chance to meet him and Jack in 2002 along with Tricia Macke & and former Ch. 5 and 19 sports anchor Greg Hoard. All Rich wants to talk about is weather this or weather that. Give it a break Rich!

at 10/11/2006 12:39 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Notice how in ANON 8:43's post (sounds like bible code, doesn't it?) the supposed comment from Rich's wife A) mentions Kroger and B) begs for companies to advertise on this forecast site?

Who is using this web site? Presumably 19 viewers were using Fox19's web site for weather. And there are so many other outlets from which to get a forecast. I looked at the site- there's like a $30 charge for 3 months of service??? No thank you! I'll get the forecast for free somewhere else.

Big change of topic here:

Has anyone seen that reprehensible 9/11 spot from Todd Beamer's dad??? The one where he says Todd fought back when al-qaida attacked us - so that's why we need to keep fighting in Iraq.

HUH????? Mr. Beamer's dad: al-qaida wasn't in Iraq - Iraq never attacked us - and had no weapons of mass destruction - Colin Powell ruined his career lying for the Bush administration over this.

As president bush says "The hardest job I have is connecting 9/11 to Iraq." Because there IS NO CONNECTION!!!

Ugh.

Okay - you can back to bashing Rich Apuzzo now.

at 10/11/2006 5:06 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm with you. I heard that ad the other day and about lost my lunch. That man should be ashamed.

at 10/11/2006 6:28 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Al Qaeda is in Iraq NOW. That's what he said. Regardless of whether or not we should've been there in the first place, however you feel about the situation - they're attacking the hell out of our guys over there right now. You hear about it every day. Not saying I support anything one way or the other. Just stating fact.

And speaking of facts - let's hear more about Richie! When was the last time we were THIS excited about Cincinnati weathercasters?

Hey, Anon 12:46 AM... did you know it's Bush's fault Apuzzo got fired, also.

See, Bush want Apuzzo to make the temperatures colder so his oil company buddies would get more money. Apuzzo wouldn't.

Since everything wrong in the world is Bush's fault, this has to another conspiracy . We need an investigation.

at 10/11/2006 8:59 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Enough with the politics. There is a blog called "Politic Extras" go there to talk about that stuff. This is the television blog, with the subject being Rich Apuzzo being fired, how did we get to "Bush is the devil"?

at 10/11/2006 9:14 AM Blogger John Kiesewetter said...

Thanks, we needed that... Yep, this is the TV blog. Folks can talk politics elsewhere.
To answer an earlier post: Yes, Tom Atkins was a Ch 5 anchor who later did weekends on Ch 9.
Now back to Rich Apuzzo, who returned to Ch 19 Tuesday briefly and cleaned out his desk...

WHAT THE HELL?!?!

Right in the middle of "Ellen" they went to an emergency "test" - but now they're airing WLW programming (commercials and everything!) over the Ellen show!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA

How the hell did THAT happen? HILARIOUS!!!

at 10/11/2006 11:25 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's actually not hard to have happen. WLW and Warm 98 are the primary stations that originate Emergency Alert System tests to all of the radio and TV stations in the area. The EAS is set to AUTOMATICALLY override station audio when the EAS receiver gets the alert and reads the code that it's a required test. The EAS basically RECORDS the on-air audio of the station originating the test, then sends that audio out to the other stations. If the operator fails to play the "End of Message" tones that shut off the EAS receivers, it will continue to record the originating station's on-air programming. I should know. When I did overnights at Warm 98, I made that mistake and every station in town ran a promo for Warm 98 after the test. I've been very careful ever since, although I haven't originated a test in a long time. The EAS will eventually run out and each station will go back to its programming. The operator at an individual station can also ABORT the alert.

Apuzzo's wife is playing the part of Hillary Clinton. Can you hear Stand by Your Man in the background? What else can she do unless she chooses to cut and run. Channel 38 might be the only station that would touch him.(if only they had a weather department)

at 10/11/2006 2:32 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

thanks for letting us know about how the emergency alert audio works

Hillary Apuzzo is a saint. I wonder if she is going to love it in Ft Wayne, IN?

at 10/11/2006 2:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ft. Wayne, IN is really a great town. Even though it's the second largest city in Indiana, it really has a small town charm which is very evident when you drive through. But I think they only have two TV stations there and one of them is like a dual ABC/NBC gig.

sad news is that he already worked in ft. wayne...and was fired there, too.

I know both Rich and Ruthie personally. I know how they are together and what awesome parents they are. I also know what happened and I know that the spin that the public is putting on it is horrible. All is well for Rich and Ruthie, and too bad for you if you wish it were otherwise. Find something else in your life to thrill you.

Personally I liked Rich. Yeah, he got spastic every once in a while but he also loved to forecast SNOW !!! Something no one else likes to do. Good Luck Rich. I for 1 will miss your forecasts.

I know Rich, Ruthie, and one of their sons (who I used to work with). Rich is a bit eccentric but he's a good guy. I used to work on his computer(s) and he purchased a laptop and computer parts at my previous place of employment (local computer shop).

Glad to hear that things are well though despite him being let go. Hopefully he can find work elsewhere.

that didn't even have to be attractive.

at 10/11/2006 10:18 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

My wife and I liked Rich. We thought he did a great job and we enjoyed watching him. He explained things well and added a nice personality to it. Hard to believe so many people like to bash a guy when he is down. Bet they are not to proud of their own lives or shortcomings if you know what I mean. We started watching the news on 64 and will probably stay there. Nice not having to listen to 20 minutes of promos on what we will be seeing later in the show.

at 10/11/2006 10:26 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mr. Kiesweiter, it would be facsinating for you to develop an outline website of the seemingly endless revolving door of radio and tv personalities, and what becomes of them a few months later. Your blog seems to be the ONLY PLACE we can get such info. Sadly, weather and reporting today isn't what it was back when Tony Sidouskous(SANDS) and Al Schottelkotte were on air. Today it is all about HOT and HYPE.....and Valerie Abati is quite attractive!!!

at 10/12/2006 2:55 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

They had a great team over there at Fox 19. I loved Rich, Paul and Valerie. I will continue to watch, but if my daughter ever wants to intern at a station where Apuzzo is at, NO WAY! My vote: Horton - Evenings, Abati - Mornings and Ruthie Apuzzo weekends.

O'Brien would be a good addition to 19! Then we would not lose him in Cincinnati.

at 10/12/2006 10:44 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think he needs to be lost from Cincinnati.

It's a sad statement when you can't keep your job at Ch. 5. After all, the requirements aren't very high to get in there.

If this is a TeeVee only blog, then why were you trying to get everyone to talk about the Blackwell-Strickland debate, Kiese? I was in fact pointing out a TeeVee ad with which I disagreed. Sorry I sopped up that little fraction of bandwidth with my comment. Either this is an open forum or it isn't.

I am shocked and mad about Rich Apuzzo.
He's a great addition to that news team, and I look forward to jumping ship to whatever station is lucky enough to pick him up.

People get fired all the time! Do we have a memorial for them?? NO!!

Get a life Cincinnati! The world is passing you by! Go live somewhere else where people don't sweat the small stuff!

The only good thing about Cincinnati is when you leave.

Anyone know what the final "straw" was?

A couple of thoughts:

1) There are definitely posts that have been pulled. At one point a poster called into question Mr. Apuzzo's behavior around attractive women. That post is now missing, but another poster's reply on 10/11 at 9:22 PM mentions the now defunct post by saying "that didn't even have to be attractive."
2) I don't know whether the poster claiming to be Rich Apuzzo is truly Rich Apuzzo, but no matter - he's correct. There are likely only a very few people that truly know everything that transpired, and it's unlikely any of them are posting here on this blog.
3) Rich, if you really are reading this blog, then allow me to take the opportunity to express a couple of things:
First, I'd like to say publicly how much my wife and I enjoyed your on-air performance over the years. Until this week we watched WXIX almost exclusively for news, and always found your forecasts informative and entertaining.
Second, whatever happened off-air which lead to your departure, I can only hope that the situation ends in a "just" manner, with all the parties getting the outcome they deserve.
Lastly, I'd like to humbly suggest that if you should find it necessary to defend yourself publicly against allegations in the future, perhaps you should think twice before comparing yourself to Rush Limbaugh... Instead you might consider a comparison to people who turned out to be innocent, like Richard Jewel...

Kiese here... Here's what's up: I'm not going to let some Anonymous people rip the character of a man, and make all kinds of wild allegations. So I took some posts down. That's the way it's going to be on this blog. I let a lot of things ride, but some of the comments, however clever, I felt were over the line. Most of the posts make for very fun reading, and I thank you. But the few that I think are over the line, I'll take down. That's the way it is on this blog. If you don't like it, then post your Anonymous comments elsewhere.

Kiese...thank you. Yes, some of these posts have gone beyond the "allegedly" frame.

This isn't the first case that someone, in any of the newsrooms, has been caught with their hands in the cookie jar or whatever.

I tend to recall a weatherman in the 70's, having hissies and throwing a very large-cup coffee perkelater across the newsroom/set.

I tend to recall a weatherman in the 80's being pealed out of a downtown bar around 10 in order to be on the air by 11 (and substituted that night quickly because he was smashed)

I tend to remember a sportscaster in the 80's who had a temper tantrum, in the parking lot of a now-defunct Riverboat Row restaurant, wanting to beat up another sportscaster, with a ball bat, because he was dating his girl.

See, no names. Those of us around here for a long time will remember these incidents. It just doesn't happen to chief meteorologists of 2006.

By the way, what's the Newport Italian-fest gonna do now? Rich was a big supporter (and eater)!

Hello Rich!

If you are reading this, I miss you! I enjoyed watching your weather and reading all the emails u sent "What's Up With Weather". I looked forward to those everyday..

As for a view of Ch. 19 news, it's not going to happen. I made the switch many years ago from Ch. 9.. I believe Ill go back to 9 again.. or Ch. 64 for the 10 news..

Will you being visiting schools again? The kids at our school.. LOVED your visits... You're extremely intelligent and your work proves your ability and knowledge in weather.

I will miss you. Good luck.

Hello Rich,

Good to hear from you. I posted earlier that my wife and I enjoyed watching you and switched to 64 at 10:00 when you left. Glad to hear you are staying in town, hope we see you around. As a native of the Chicago area myself I consider you family and now we have Da Bears to keep our minds off our troubles. Monsters Of The Midway are Back!

Rich, I just can't believe it!
Last night I stayed up long enough to catch the news after baseball. I asked my husband why Paul Horton was on. He replied that they fired Rich, the shock was incredible how could they get rid of Rich? So I went on WXIX site this morning and looked for any info. The curious thing is that all I could find was a posting dated 10/9/06 that says Rich has been signed to a multi year contract. What is up with that? Did WXIX do this purposefully during baseball when a lot of people switch for the month? Why not Trisha instead? For those that love Paul, in the one expierence that I had with him I found him to be incredibly rude to my young son who had been a big fan of his. Well as a loyal viewer who has stuck by 19 through disappearing reporters and weathermen and women (Dave Frazier I still miss you) I will no longer watch any news program that WXIX produces! Regina I hope to see you on another station.

I personally am not surprised by this at all. I know Rich, and have always thought him to be an arrogant, ego stuffed doughboy bouncing around on the television screen. I agree with ther person that posted that the blog via his "WIFE" is not his wife. The text doesn't sound like her at all. Sure fits his "I am so great" attitude.

Jobs come and go. Rich has enough talent and appeal (for my wife, I could take him or leave him) to make it somewhere else. It is obvious that whatever happened didn't rise to the level of putting him in jail. Lets leave it at an issue between he and his employer, give them both the benefit of the doubt, and concern ourselves with the really important matters at hand, like how is junior going to overcome that points deficit? I'm leaving my name as I agree with Rich.

Rich, sorry you are not on 19.

We reeeeeeeeeeeaaaalllly enjoyed 19 news.
After being out of town the first 2 weeks in Oct, we thought you were on vacation.
So sorry you are not on the 10 o'clock. You were an intricately active vital part of the TJR Team. Here's hoping they (19) come to their senses and reconsider. The ratings will begin to dangle downward.
We now just do not bother to turn 19 on. After all we have the internet, weather radio, gas generator, who needs 19?
Good Luck and thanks for the humor these past years after a long day.

I Have 2 words "WHO CARES" He's someone you see for 10 minutes on week-nights. And he couldn't even get the weather correct. It must be serious and embarrassing if he is not telling why he was fired!!

What are you doing predicting weather from your home?

at 11/16/2006 9:45 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow, were we slow. We just found out he was fired. We are new to the area and thought Rich was an excellent weather guy. We enjoyed the rapport the entire 19 news at 10:00 had. Rich's departure is a shame. So far, don't like the new guy as much. No interaction with the anchors makes it that much more boring. Still no word on why, huh?

We will miss you Rich. For years I felt your forecasts were more accurate and realistic. When you said it would snow, it snowed. When you said it would be sunny, I reached for my sunglasses. Good luck in the future. Ron

You people are ridiculous. Rich Apuzzo is a spot on weatherman who brought some entertainment to an otherwise snoozefest newscast... The most exciting thing now is the evolution of Tricia Macke's do. I miss Rich and will switch to any other station that has him on...

There are others at Fox 19 who are more questionable than him. He seemed quite nice the couple of times I ran into him in Anderson Twsp.

at 11/21/2006 2:04 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Rich was more accurate than other stations. He was lively on his broadcasts and helpful and prompt when asked questions via e-mail. I would rather have Horton than Abati on at night because he doesn't talk through his nose! Rich has been missed.

Gotta say that Rich Apuzzo is a great guy and a fantastic weatherman. I own a construction company and depended on HIS weather reports, they were as accuriate as you can get without being God himself..or herself! Valerie Abati? Good grief!!! Her voice is like a whinny little school girl..get a kleenex and blow or shut up Valerie!!! Like nails on a chalk board..how can anyone stand to hear her speak???
I do agree however that his fees for his personal weather info. is waaaay too expensive!

Look and you'll see....Cincinnati's Loss is Dayton's gain. Both Rich Apuzzo and Pat Barry were hired recently by Sinclair Media II (Owners of My64(Cincy),Fox45,and ABC 22(Dayton).So anyone who would desire to see Rich or Pat,tune in Fox 45 at 10PM or ABC 22 at 11PM. And yes,Bring back Glen "Skipper" Ryle as well as Uncle Al and Captain Wendy. It was nice back in the old days of the 60's and 70's. Anyone remember the incident with the gunman that took over WCPO in 1977 then took his life?

I used to watch Rich from my home in Kettering. Dayton could use a good weather man. Perhaps WDTN could hire Rich and fire old and worn out Carl Nichols or maybe WHIO would be interested in replacing Jamie Simpson.

Tom in Kettering.

Who cares? People are losing their jobs every day due to company closings, downsizing, and sending work overseas.

Weather reporters are a dime a dozen and, as far as my opinion goes, I cannot stand Jim O/Brien because all he knows how to say is "heavy pockets of rain" and uses the word "pockets" over and over in a single forecast.

Perhaps the stations could contract with the National Weather Service to stream forecasts across the station air and cut out all the weather reporters!

Glad Apuzzo is gone. He is a egomaniac and scared people to death in the snow.

I just want to say that Jim Obrien is a complete geek who can't admit he is wrong 90% of the time! Why can't you just admit you throw darts at the forcast board? 10% rain means you are clueless and protecting yourself.

I personally liked Rich, I always thought he was a dedicated and very knowledgeable weather person. On of those unusually dedicated and truly passionate weather people that loved what he did. Yes, at times the camera wasn't kind to his large forehead, but I'll take that any day over a less energetic and knowledgeable forecaster. Rich was always pretty good about his forecast, yes he would ham it up most times, but that is simply TV, and the teases are what keeps people watching, weather or news related. You never had the feeling rich didn't know what he was talking about, the guy loved weather and really knew his stuff. I liked the passion and weather knowledge he shared with his viewers. I'll miss Rich Apozzo, and have been missing Fox News lately, watching instead the 11:00 News. Channel 19 has not only lost a great weather man, but lately has been operating like a armature broadcasting station. I have grown old with the many programming errors, missed stories and overall less then top notch broadcasting. What's up Fox 19? I have been a dedicated viewer for years and lately the 10:00 News has been a mess, I can not recall a news station with such low standards as the ones your station has exhibited lately. Where is the professionalism?
As a news viewer, I would not set Paul Horton in the positions of head meteorologist, he is simply not up to the task, nor does he elude the persona of a head meteorologist. Valery Abatty does a very good job, and with a little more guidance may grow into the role. Good luck re-grouping the staff at Fox 19, and good luck to you to Rich, we will miss you

WELL!!!! I can see that the judgemental jerks are still around!! If you don't know what is going on SHUT UP!!! WHATEVER it was is no ones buisness,AND Mr Apuzo seems like a man who would not do ANYTHING to endanger his marriage or his career,AND so what if he SCARED you on bad weather WE would rather be prepared 4 the worst senario and not be dissappointd if it didn't pan out , or have some one pat us on the back and pacify us then get slammed or caught on the road in the middle of a bad storm, sometimes we want everything to be perfect and its not the way life works, Leave the man alone and quit quessing at EVERYTHING!! mind your own buisness and make this a BETTER world, if everyone would just take care of their own lives, and do what they are suppossed to do in their own sphere then! W@W! wallah! we could have a peace and harmony world!!
its the trouble makers that just HAVE to keep it going!!
How would you feel if it was you??
Peace be with you!!

We were out of town and moving and had thought he was on vacation. He made his reporting education, entertaining and informative. He went beyond the "it's going to rain" and explained why. We no longer watch evening news of 19 because he was the reason we watched. Guess this will call for a higher mast and a better tuner to pull 22.

I'm behind the times, I did not know Rich Apuzzo was fired. I've been looking for him on the news stations websites because I've always trusted his forecasts. I'm so disappointed he's not on the air. He was as accurate and trustworthy as they come. . . I don't care what he did off the air.
And how disappointed I am in the people that are acting like animals, ripping a person apart when he's down. What would you like people to say about you when you're hitting a rough patch? Think about if it was you. . .don't be so hasty to judge, none of us are without fault.

Until a few days ago I didn't know he was fired but after seeing a commercial about some guy named Derek something on Ch. 5 about how the weather is how he said it was and at the end it showed Rich Apuzzo saying something like "hey Cincinnati derek said it would be like this." and so by that I figured if he is shown on Ch. 5 then he must have been fired.

Oh yeah, GOOD LUCK RICH IN WHATEVER YOU DO.
