Two More TV Weathermen in the News

Nope, not Rich Apuzzo or Jim O’Brien today… It’s the return of Pat Barry!
After a seven-year absence, Pat Barry returns to TV weather this weekend – but not on Channel 19, which fired Rich Apuzzo Monday. Barry, a Clear Channel radio sales rep, will fill-in on newscasts on Dayton’s WKEF-TV (Ch 22) and WRGT-TV (Ch 45) for two weeks starting Saturday. He’ll be working for Pat Casey, the former Ch 19 news director. Barry’s last weather gig was for "Fox 19 in the Morning," until he quit in May 1999. And yes, Barry has expressed his interest in doing fill-in work at Ch 19, until a permanent replacement for Apuzzo is hired.
So how many Fox 19 weather folks can you name? Or former anchors?

And Yet Another Weatherman: Pete Delkus
Ed Bark, former Dallas Morning News TV critic, reports today on his blog that former Ch 9 weatherman Pete Delkus will become chief meteorologist at Dallas' WFAA-TV next July, when the legendary Troy Dungan retires after 31 years. Dungan recruited Delkus last year from Ch 9. Bark says that WCPO-TV (Ch 9) "offered Delkus a lifetime contract in a last ditch effort to keep him" a year ago. (Hadn't heard that before!) Delkus, who does the late news, has been heavily promoted in a "Delkus Delivers" campaign.

Another TV debate
U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown and U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine debate issues in their race for the U.S. Senate seat 8-9 p.m. Friday on Dayton’s Ch. 16. It will be simulcast on WVXU-FM (91.7), www.wvxu.org, WMUB-FM (88.5) and www.wmub.org

Susan Floyd needs your help
Anyone remember Susan Floyd, the '86 Oak Hills High School grad? She played Christine Cromwell on "One Life to Live" in 1988, during her sophomore year at the University of Utah, and starred in ABC’s "Then Came You" sitcom in 2000.
You can see here as real estate agent Gina Bennett on CW’s new "Runaway" drama (9 p.m. Sunday). But better catch it quick: "Runaway" is dead last in the TV ratings at No. 99. It is averaging an 0.7 rating point and 2% audience share, just slightly more than 2 million viewers. Then again, it’s on the CW, so it could hang around for all 13 episodes… or all season...
Floyd’s credits include "Boston Legal," "Law & Order," "Spin City," "Breathing Room," "Random Hearts" and the soon-to-be-released "The Invasion" with Nicole Kidman.

Anchors away!
Now for today’s fun: How many former Ch. 19 anchors, weather folks or reporters can you name? And for bonus points: Name the original 1993 Ten O’Clock News team. And who anchored Ch 19's short-lived midnight newscast?

Alix Kendall and Don Teague were the original anchors of the morning show back when Pat was doing weather. I remember seeing Teague reporting for CBS in Iraq. I heard Kendall is at the FOX station in Minneapolis.

Pat Berry back doing weather..Well thank god! Will Jerry Springer be on his forecasts dancing??

Yeah, we need Pat. Maybe he can tell us to keep our wits about us when a storm is coming.

Maybe they can reunite Pat, Jerry, Normer and Ken Broo..That would sooo special.

Hey, whatever happened to Ray Lane?

Gina Germani was the co-anchor between Watson and Macke. How about Wendy Burch, she originally did weekends. 19 has had so many general assignment reporters it is impossible to count. Bill Kelly did morning and weekend weather for awhile.

John You forgot to mention fox19s other departed newscast anyone else remember when it was on and what time

Ray Lane went to Detroit, did Tigers on cable and anchored sports for the WB or UPN affiliate through the mid 90s. It was a second tier 10 o'clock newscast.

Anyone else watch Jericho last night? In the first few minutes, we find out Cincinnati got bombed, too. AWESOME! We might have gotten nuked, but we made the big time again :-)

Brett Martin was the original "roving reporter" on 19 In the Morning. He did a lot of the type of stuff Paul Horton now does. Don't forget Kevin Frasier who did sports at 19 before eventually winding up on Entertainment Tonight.

Karla Stanley, first fox 19 News director

Tony Mann was WXIX's first weekend weather anchor. Prior to that, he worked the early morning and noon shows at WLWT.

I think Pat Barry started out on the weekends at WXIX then went to weekday mornings when the station launched "19 In The Morning".

I think we've also mentioned former WXIX personel in a previous blog about Andy Treinen.

Kendall also did the short-lived Fox19 Midday which was on at 11:30am.

at 10/12/2006 5:00 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jonathan Hawgood did some summer fill-in work at Fox19 for a while before being hired by 5. And Sheree worked behind the scenes on the morning news back in the Pat Berry days.

Karla Stanley was not the first Fox19 news director. Greg Caputo was. He's now the news director at WGN-TV in Chicago.

We've gone all this time and not mention the cog of the WXIX news operation:

Hugh Dermody!

If anyone deserves anchortime, it's Hugh!

at 10/12/2006 10:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

AMEN! Terrible oversight... Hugh was a 100% class act. Hope he is living the good life in FL.

And Patrice Mohn was never a ND - she was a station manager and now works for Warner Bros in LA.

Judd Cribbs (either before or after he was at 5). He's not at WINK in Fla.

well then, how could you possibly leave out joanne moore?

at 10/13/2006 4:59 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Indeed, as the man who read the "News Upates" on 19XIX - Hugh actually was the first on-air news talent for WXIX-TV.

at 10/13/2006 5:03 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

19XIX, going back 20 years or so...I do not recall her name, but the wife of Steve Physioc did headlines.

at 10/14/2006 4:34 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

She also co-hosted PM Magazine on WIII with Jim Scott. The Eyes of Cincinnati....and she sure had those.

i thought on magazine was on wkrc and one hosts name was joyce wise

at 10/14/2006 10:57 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

It was....then it went away.

And then....WBTI became WIII and they thought "hey let's bring back PM Magazine....and hey, let's haul them around in this RV....which ended up parked in 64's lot from about week 3 to midway into year 1 of Star64.

I'm thinking of a first name of Stacy???? I don't think that's right.

Tony Mann was the first weekend weatherman.

Wendy Shaw, Andy Treinen, Jill Eichhorn, Kristy Mazurek, Betsy McArthur, Kevin Landers, Ron Zwerin, Dave Culbreth, Dan Carroll, Judd Cribbs, Mariah Gray, Ann Alexander, Kim Moening, and there was one reporter who left the news about a week after it went on the air in '93. Can't remember her name.

Bill Orr, Micheal Sclesinger and Micheal Kelting also did morning weather at 19

at 10/20/2006 3:11 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think anyone could do the weather at 19. If Pat Berry could....heck, why not Dave Lee, Dan Royal or the others who were forced out of broadcasting and have to work in retail sales.

at 10/20/2006 3:58 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

moening is probably just staying at home being a mom and richard chiles late of 64 is now at channel 9

Never saw her afterthat project. Some years ago like early 90s.
