Laura Powell on Q102

When I heard Laura Powell and Brian Douglas filling in for "sick" Jeff & Jenn on Q102 this morning, I figured something was up. And it was. Laura Powell, who co-hosted mornings on MOJO94.9 -- until the format was sold to Radio One for FM 100.3 last September -- will become Douglas's permanent co-host tomorrow.

Douglas says he always wanted an on-air partner "to bounce things off of. She loves pop culture. We can talk about '24' or 'American Idol' or whatever. She's really great."

Q102 folks had been talking to Powell since she lost her job in the MOJO intellectual property sale last fall.

And yes, Jeff & Jenn were really sick today. Powell and Douglas were supposed to start this afternoon, but we're called late Sunday afternoon and told to do the morning show. If Jeff & Jenn are sick again Tuesday, Douglas and Powell will do mornings again and delay their afternoon by another day, says Patti Marshall, program director.

Did you hear Laura with Brian today? Think it will work? Glad to hear her back on the air?

Will a high ranking Clear Channel radio person be let go today? Can she do anything to prevent it?

BIG fan of Laura Powell... and Brian has always been a class act... My only beef, I'll miss most of their show since I work until 530pm. Laura was my FAVORITE morning show personality, I'm so glad to see she'll be staying in Cincinnati. And if Jeff and Jenn leave town, Laura will be ready to step in. Great move Q102!

Was she let go, or picked up by someone else?

She was let go. I believe her contract was bought out when Cumulus Media Partners sold the Mojo brand to Radio One.

Glad to see Laura landed on her feet. She's good people. Prediction: Brian and Laura move in to replace Jeff and Jen. May not happen immediately, but an afternoon co-host is unusual.

Let go, probably a contract buyout. Glad to see Laura landed on her feet; she's good people.

I'm betting this is a step towards Jeff and Jenn's departure. Time will tell, but it's not common to have a co-host on afternoon drive.

Anon. 6:12pm:

Powell was let go by Radio One. Entercom has picked her up and now we have a new PM drive time duo. I like Brian and am interested in hearing how this pairing works. If I'm not mistaken, they tried putting Brian with someone else a few months back but pulled them.

I guess John Jay and all the crew on that ill-fated morning show weren't "up on pop-culture and '24' "

Off topic, but....
Anyone watch Wife Swap last night? The "Hamilton's from Ohio", anyone know them? I lived in Franklin until late 2004 and when they were on the golf course at the end of the show, I am certian that golf course is "The Practice Center" located to the left off exit 36 off of I75.

So, if anyone knows them, were they portrayed correctly on the show?

Thanks!

Yippe! I can not wait until Laura and Brian take the AM drive slot - I will actually tune back into it if they do ... Jeff and Jen are annoying. - and the Frito girl is the worst voice on Radio - does she have any formal training??.

I loved Laura on MOJO - listened to it everyday on the way to work and I love Brian on the way home..

I will say that I hope Keith (Laura's former co-host on MOJO) found good work he was good too.

I LOVE Laura Powell and I'm so glad she's back on the air! She's funny and sincere, a mom who's easy to relate to (or else she relate's to me). You know her former Mojo producer "Bridget" is looking for a radio gig while waiting tables at Zips (how 'bout it Q102)? Now if we can only get Tori Turner back on the air... where is she Kiesewetter?

I think Keith is on the "New MOJO 100.3" as Program or Music director...can anyone confirm this?

Last I heard Keith Mitchell was still at Cumulus. He stayed on after MOJO was sold to Radio One. He's been involved with WGRR-FM (103.5), and he's subbed for DJs on the air. I'm pretty sure he's still at MOJO.

Keith Mitchell is now the program director of WGRR, as a simple trip to their website proves. Since WGRR had a morning show when it went to Cumulus, my guess is he's no longer on air full time.

They were on again this morning I'm assuming. Holly Morgan is doing the show right now.

John - any reason why Sheree gets hammered for comments on the radio, but Deb Dixon can host a NON-STOP OPINION FEST live on CH. 12 all this morning at the David Carroll sentencing???
I've got the tapes to prove it.

It was so great to hear Laura on the radio. I didn't realize how much I missed her. Glad she's back.

No Doubt!
When I heard Laura's voice the other day while she was on with Brian Douglas...........not only did my jaw drop, but I got chills, too! I was a huge fan of Keith and Laura in the morning on MOJO 94.9.

I grew up listening to Q102. It was my favorite station for a long time....until they started to change their format, which seemed like every other month. I enjoy a wide range of music, from Rap/Hip Hop, Oldies, Rock, some Country, Alternative. If Laura is here to stay.....I will be tuning in more and more. Plus, I think the music they are playing now, fits better with me. I mostly listen to WIZF or 92.5 the Fox. (I know....kind of weird!)
I have fully boycotted 100.3 and their "New Mojo"....because simply....there is no MOJO about it. I haven't listened to a full song on that station yet. I refuse to program it into my car stereo or at home.
How can you get rid of a station that interests most races from the age of 25-65? Then turn it into a station that only interests a singular group of females with an age range 20-50?
Way to go Q! Now, if we could only help Keith out little. I heard he was a fill in DJ somewhere in Cincinnati.
