Smooth Jazz Returns
Smooth jazz returned to local airwaves at noon today when WCIN-AM (1480) after an eight-yea absence. Bob Cox, the St. Louis receiver appointed by Cincinnati federal court, says smooth jazz was an obvious void in the market.
The 24/7 satellite service plays Anita Baker, Boney James, Grover Washington Jr., George Benson and other artists not heard here regularly (except Saturday nights on WARM98) since the short-lived WAVE crashed (1995-99).
The daytime signal is fairly strong, with 4,500 watts. But it still will be tough to hear at night with only 300 watts.
Give it a listen and tell me what you think.

"Smooth jazz" isn't jazz. It's easy-listening garbage.
How I miss the old WNOP!
Can't disagree with the comment about "smooth Jazz" but at least it's a start in the right direction. However, what happened to WCIN, there were some great shows on that station. It depresses me to see some of those shows go.
I agree with the WNOP statement, where nonsense occasionally prevails.
Still miss it every workday. I actually saw a guy wearing a WNOP shirt just the other day.
Well, Louis...it may not be pure jazz but it is better than the vulgar dreck that passes for black music in today's era if you ask me!!!
Thanks for the info John though I think I can only get this station in my car! :)
I miss the days when BET was mellow music about love songs and ballads.
*sigh*
Lighten up folks if the semantics are off.
=:-)
I'm going to missed WCIN I was raised listening to the station and will missed listening to Jelly Roll, Sweet Alice, TC, Mark Neal, Savannah,Sister Ivette and etc. I knew the day was coming but it came unexpectedly. So RIP 1480 WCIN "Hits and Oldies" and "The Pulse of Cincinnati".
I too miss the old WNOP. The only problem with it was that great music like that deserved the fidelity that FM offers.
Which producer is about to leave Clear Channel for greener pastures?
I am so happy to have jazz back in Cincinnati - it was so frustrating to only have talk, oldies, and country. Thank goodness now I have wonderful music to listen to again.
I use to not listen to the radio because of the rap, and bad R&B that is out there now. Call it what you want, but now I listen.
