WUBE-FM Nominated for a Marconi Award

After decades of good times and great country music, WUBE-FM (105.1) has been nominated for a prestigious Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. It's certainly deserving, with its experienced DJ staff (Duke Hamilton, Bill Whyte, Amando Orlando, etc.). B105 folks say its a first for the station, which fired program director Marty Thompson two weeks ago.

Winners will be announced at the NAB convention Sept. 27.

B105 is the only Greater Cincinnati/Northern KY station to be nominated this year. No personalities from here are up for a Marconi either. Here's the list:

Who would you nominate for a Marconi as one of the best stations/personalities in the country?

I am hard pressed to think of any radio station currently trying anything innovative, interesting, or worth listening to.

Cincinnati radio is some of the most boring, commercial-filled, and undaring radio on the planet.

Our news stations are filled with sports. Our music stations are filled with talk. And our talk stations are filled with garbage.

Mr. Anon 10:50...instead of generalizing, why don't you share some specifics and give us what YOU would do to make it better?

I would nominate Brian Pitts and his afternoon traffic on DJO (1160 AM). NOT Mary McConnell in the AM though. UGH!

There should be traffic reporters nominated as well. Maybe not for a marconi, but for some type of award. They are the nameless people who give one half of the reason to listen to radio on the way to and from work. The other are the weather people.

So I say Maverick, Bruce Davis and Jim Stevens should be awarded something to honor what they offer up. Which at times is repetitive, but necessary.

Anon 11:34, Anon 10:15 would, but he is too busy being creative, interesting, and daring in finding new ways to complain about Cincinnati radio.

How to make Cincinnati radio better? haaa I am so doubled over in laughter I can't gather my thoughts. Too much garbage and nothing changes and way too much belly laughing in the am. I saw where someone nominated Dennis Walker of WEBN. ha. Guy is lousy and talks through his nose and is too hung up on Pete Rose, but then again he did name his kid after Pete. Class.

HA! What a joke---Isn't that the station that just fired their head of programming? I guess the joke is on them.

ha. I like the terms "In depth team coverage" and "newsradio". Have you ever heard such nonsense? Team coverage. Please. Why have a second person read one sentence about a story, not to mention that deep voice bumper that says "in depth team coverage". WLW is such a JOKE. Why cant this market get a full news/talk information format and less crap.

If B105 wins, can we get just one picture of Bill and Amanda with Bill not waring that hat to hide his bald head?

Maybe they will get the award for that horrible belly laugh done by Amanda. Morning radio, yuck!!
